Gurman: Apple wanted iPhone 17 Air to be a port-free device

I'm holding onto the hope that EU regulations somehow stop this strive towards portless devices. Not only is USB-C charging important, so is hardware access for file transfer and other things such as extra storage, etc. Taking away features is, to me, never innovation but simply removing options from consumers.

Apple selling less phone for more money, as per usual. Literally the worst company around when it comes to catering for its customers

If apple made a portless phone they wouldn't put a magsafe charger in the box and make the box as thin as possible. It's just a useless gimmick

Ots always the consumers who are the end losers.

Lithium-ion battery and heat is a no-go area, coming to add wireless charging which generates heat just like wired ?
Portless phone would really be great for battery longevity *smirks*

FAKE NEWS & PROPAGÄNDA!
US iPhoness have no physical SIM card slot while ROW has it so if Apple wants a portless iPhone they could've made an EU version with USB-C while ROW would get a portless version. This is just defamation of the EU because they force them to be pro-consumer for once

What about data transfer? Wireless energy transfer isn't efficient or fast. Next it will be capacitive touch volume and power controls and no more buttons or holes period.

Apple just trying to squeeze more money out of its gullible users.... I didn't think they could hit a much more low point than just removing the charger but now they wanna create a dependency on a way less efficient wireless charging because those chargers are always sold at a good enough profit margin?

Wireless for charging only is fine. But for data transfer? no thanks.

Nothing surprising here, magsafe was their first step.
Worst part is how other companies will monkey this without fixing the issues caused around it.

I’m so glad the EU forced Apple to keep the charging port after passing the USB-C requirement back then. I still remember the old rumors (from way back when the EU USB-C requirement was announced) about Apple making port-less iPhones because they REALLY didn’t want to use another kind of charging cable.
Apple was pretty pissy about ditching MFi lightning cables they made money off of via royalties, and still are to this day. MFi was very predatory.
