Will iPhone 17 (base) support 8k too? Some says it's only on the pro models?

Anonymous, 27 Mar 2025You definitely misunderstood the sentence. Apple offer seem... moreNo, I didn't misunderstand, but my choice of words could be vague.
What I meant was, had Apple risked and offered 8K on the iPhone 16's main camera with no possiblity of lens changing, why would the common Apple user be confused, as the author claims?
See, only power users employs 8K mode, and they know it's 33 Megapixels, don't they?
The basic user can still enjoy lens changing benefits on default modes like 4K, FHD, etc, right?
So, why did they deprive iP16's owner of 8K entirely? Overall, it was a counter-productive move, with a big excuse...
I don't think a iP16 owner would mind a hidden 8K mode with main camera, as opposed to nothing in 8K...

If the iPhone 17 and 17 Air support 8K video, then the starting storage should be 256GB instead of 128GB.

Apple's approach of only enabling features when all cameras can do it is much better than what Android OEMs have been doing.
A long time Chinese OEMs claimed "4K recording" but only the main camera could do it while UW and tele where limited to crappy FHD and it always felt like false advertising to me that only 1 out of 3 or 4 cams could do it. The situation gladly improved a lot since then.

403 Forbidden, 27 Mar 2025Probably never, I guess? 8K TVs are not even that popular. ... moreI agree with that, haven't felt the need to try the 8k recording on my S25 ultra, it is nice to know it's there though.

They didn't offer 8k recording before because the telephoto lens resolution is small, so they can't enable seemless 8k recording across all 3 lens. Larger telephoto lens resolution in 17 would probably enable it finally.
