iPhone 17 series to support 8K video recording

That could mean a new telephoto camera sensor too.

Ngl I couldn't care less about any recording above 2K, because
1. I don't record much.
2. I and most of my friends/family (just in case I share my videos to them) don't have any 4K screen/monitor in the first place, let alone 8K.
But yeah it's a nice feature to have even though I'm not gonna use it. Better have it when you don't need it rather than don't have it when you need it.

[deleted post]> imo a more accurate answer would be celebrities, they made iPhones a status symbol.

They're getting paid by Apple to use their phone. No one ever said that because people afraid it hurts Apple's reputation.

"" According to Apple, it would be confusion if you can't shoot 8K videos with the telephoto unit and are thus unable to switch between all cameras during 8K recording. ""

Is it so tough for Apple fans to recognise that 8K resolution (around 33 megapixels) is approx 4 times of 4K (around 8 megapixels), and thus they need high-res sensor.
So, why would they get confused?
I'm an Android guy so I can't comment, but this is just elementary mathematics?!

And 8K is not for regular shooting.

iSheep, 26 Mar 2025The best phone for recording video got even better 🔥The best only at social media pics not the ordinary pics because samsung and xiaomi are better because they came up with 8k in 2020 and now finally apple releases this in 2026 and then be like 'our greatest innovation yet' but won't forget this tech is old now yet its useful when needed, they will still be like 'the new 8k camera'.

              Nice🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

                nice

If Apple uses a 1/1.56" type sensor for telephoto, Google and Samsung will be lost

Also, I expect Apple's 8k will be meaningfully better than the 8k from other phones.

so "innovative" even currently android flagships already has 8k 120fps before iphone 17 🔥

Finally we get to taste 8k after very long times…but maybe 16k already around the corner

Fa14bi, 27 Mar 2025Or we just record Videos at higher bitratesNot necessarily. Even with a higher bitrate, higher resolution would still give better detail.

'While the iPhone 16 series could offer high-resolution video recording the company never really implemented it.'

I want to know when 4k stopped being considered high resolution 🤔🤔🤔

YUKI93, 26 Mar 2025I'd take 4K/120fps over 8K/30fps all day. Until Apple ... moreAnd 4k240 linear should be possible too.

Anonymous, 26 Mar 2025I would make jokes about the S24 FE being able to do 8k vid... moreThe only reason I can see for 8K video recording is 4K downscaling. If downscaled FHD from 4K video is better than native FHD video, I can't see anything wrong with downscaled 4K from 8K video.

I'd take 4K/120fps over 8K/30fps all day. Until Apple give 4K/120fps support on the telephoto camera, I wouldn't be interested on buying an iPhone.

Maybe that 8k will look like real 4k quality. Now if we compare footage from iphone 16 pro max to aps-c mirrorless camera then iphones video is more like 1080p, against full frame it even worse.

                                    What for ?

                                      Pointless.....
