Apple's foldable iPhone to use liquid metal hinge, much stronger than titanium

28 March 2025
The rigid hinge might help with the display crease too.

Cpt.Power, 28 Mar 2025Main issue again it will be dirability. Liquid metal mean... moreLiterally the point of using liquid metal would be improved durability. You could've gotten that much from the headline, let alone the article itself.

Apple SIM Tray ejector s used to come in Liquid Metal if I remember correctly since long back, They looked not as strong as they claim at least based on my experience, not sure if they were really made of Liquid Metal!

I and a lot of people have lost a lot of admiration for apple in the last few years. But if they launch a creaseless folding phone in thr first try itself my and a lot of peoples admiration for apple will go up.

Liquid metal means it wont be durable as it could be.

You know, I'm calling it at this point: the folding iPhone will never be an actual product, and will never be officially announced, but will be officially cancelled by 2030 a la the Apple Car project.

samsung's hinge is armor aluminum which can withstand reverse bending and 10 years of unfolding. so, internal material is durable enough as it is. the concern is the flexible screen itself. almost 3-4% of flip's screens suffer from dead pixels in the first 1-2 years with no reason. samsung covers the replacement in the first year but, that is not enough considering the lifespan of a smartphone.

Huawei and Samsung Foldable phone has been available since 2019.
I think Apple/Tim Cook team still trying to learn to make 1 foldable phone/tab.

Crease can never be eliminated, it can be minimised but not eliminated, everything that bends will always create crease, its nature.

I am using Tri-fold phone now, this Apple new liquid metal hinge sounds like a very high-technology invention from Apple. I guess this product will need another 5-10 years to be launching to the market. My new born baby is 1-month year old now, by the time this new Apple product will launch in few years later, definitely I will buy this new Apple product for my baby or kid toys. I want the best and latest technology/ invention from Apple for my kid.
