Apple's foldable iPhone to use liquid metal hinge, much stronger than titanium

The rigid hinge might help with the display crease too.

Anonymous, 28 Mar 2025Its not released, yet. And there is no guarantee they will ... moreBy your logic no one is allowed to comment on iPhone 17 Air's post because "it's still not released yet".

403 Forbidden, 28 Mar 2025Now who's that one guy who said that Apple will never ... moreMany of us were skeptical because we didn't see the Apple logo on the back of a Galaxy Z Flip. But Apple's foldable phone is starting to get rumored in many media outlets, and now it seems real. I still think it will fail miserably like its Vision Pro, and I don't think it will become popular with customers.

It is not used in much, because it is known to be extremely brittle. Yield strength is only one needed property in a hinge. Being easily damaged by impact is likely not a good feature for a $2,000 phone.

So your comment is totally pointless at this time.
Bring It up when they actually release a foldable.

It's Liquidmetal not liquid metal. It's a brand name. Liquid metal is weak, but Liquidmetal is strong.

So like, they're going to make the hinge out of mercury?

"Liquidmetal has also notably been used for making the SIM ejector tool of some iPhone 3Gs made by Apple Inc., shipped in the US. This was done by Apple as an exercise to test the viability of usage of the metal.[11] They retain a scratch-free surface longer than competing materials, while still being made in complex shapes."

                            https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquidmetal

Never owned an iPhone 3G. Maybe the sim ejector tool would become a collector's item.

Apple is using the T-1000 from Terminator 2 for the hinge on its foldables?

Liquid metal sounds like another marketing name for something much easier to implement.

                                  It's gonna cost like 1/10th of a person's life expenditure 💀

Apple foldable iPhone to use liquid metal hinge and sell it for let's say:

                                    "Which year is this?"
"Oh 2025 right yes..... Just 2025$"

"One more thing, they are the first to make the foldables in the industry :)"
