AltFantasy, 29 Mar 2025so why is it that this design gets this sort of flak, but a... moreprobably because people here have more than 1 braincell compared to them

Senibo Milla, 29 Mar 2025What problem does this solve exactly !? 1. Cheaper BoM - for samsung, omitting the external display can increase their profit margin if priced still the same as the current foldable, or make the SRP lower for wider consumer reach.

      2. Space utilization- Samsung have more space for more components since this prototype doesn't have an additional external display.

      3. Slimmer/Sleeker/Lighter - for consumers it will be much more comfortable to hold.

How long until Huawei copies this and brings it to production? I say 2 years.

That aside, the Mate XT has the advantage of unfolding twice. A 360 degree hinge would allow the G fold to be a 3-1 device with the option to close inward for protection. It also means you don't need an outer screen which could cut costs(potentially), increase battery life and make the phone slimmer and lighter.

Also, the design of this phone doesn't matter. They are showcasing the hinge.

Senibo Milla, 29 Mar 2025What problem does this solve exactly !? who knows? I think this question could be applied to almost all foldables (except the clamshell kind) right now, though.

Ouifuf, 29 Mar 2025this would be the ugliest prototype looking thing ever. use... more... obviously? this is just a patent, it's not even a "prototype".

Anonymous, 29 Mar 2025this is the type of crap kids would be MEGA GLAZING on yout... moreso why is it that this design gets this sort of flak, but a tri-fold thing from Huawei is praised as "practical" or whatever?

besides, this is just a patent, it's meant to be ugly and mechanical.

want to monopolize patent rights? After that, they will be able to make excuses that prices will increase every year, and we, the customers, will not get any profit.
