Eno2, 02 Apr 2025Sorry to disappoint you but your statements are totally inc... morenot gonna look up studies for things i've researched myself with samples and stuff, it's only an anecdote but the differences aren't that massive and more importantly, even if technically it's doubly superior, in reality it's not, that was my point. Just like brightness, on paper something may be 50% brighter but in reality it looks 10-20% better. Don't forget at the end of the day we're not measuring stuff with our computers, we're using these devices to take photos we SEE with our eyes.

Ofc, larger image sensors allow you to play around more due to the lower noise ratio and the higher dynamic range, but the difference is not so massive that im gonna sacrifice space for other sensors or battery. Or worse, even the feasibility of a product.

Again, my point isn't that it's not technically superior or anything, my point is that it's not superior enough to justify getting rid of the comfort of the present for a bulkier, uncomfortable version in the future. We carry phones in our pockets, if we had to sacrifice so much i'd rather go for a dedicated camera.

those 3 same shots are very well balanced and captured, really super looking images, although until an independent reviewer tries it on youtube I always hold back on final thoughts, I am however in the market for. new flagship, Xiaomi 15 ultra or vivo X200 Ultra looks lie my choice currently.

jiyen235, 02 Apr 2025sensors are never proportionally better. I believe sensor s... moreSorry to disappoint you but your statements are totally incorrect!

Bigger sensors with the same technology inside, proportionally with size yield better results compared to smaller ones. There is nothing to discuss, it is a scientific fact, not wishful thinking! I encourage you to search on the internet about this fact, on any scientific journal, publication or technical literature.

1" sensor is doable in size compared to an 1/1,41" one, thus it has twice better image quality, one stop lower noise, double the dynamic range, more bit depth etc.
The same cam be said about an 1/1,41" sensor compared to an 1/2" one, etc.

Computational image processing also has an impact on the final image quality, of course, but all else equal, a bigger sensor will always yield a better image!

Eno2, 02 Apr 2025We want 1" because it's ~70% larger, and proporti... moresensors are never proportionally better. I believe sensor sizes follow a logarithmic scale in terms of quality. The quality jumps between the smaller sensors is absolutely massive but then it starts to taper off.

          For example a 1/4" sensor compared to a 1/3.21" one or a 1/2.55" sensor compared to a 1/1.56" one.

There is definitely a difference between the 1/1.28" and 1 inch sensors but it's not THAT big, besides, just a 1 inch on a phone means nothing. You NEED the LYT-900 for there to be a decent difference, it's an exceptional sensor. How it's so much better compared to the IMX989 is beyond me but it's absolutely LEAGUES ahead.

Don't get caught up in the size, think about the quality as well. And more importantly, take a look at the aperture as well, it's the combination of aperture and sensor size change that dictates the light intake difference, not JUST the size. Although this point is somewhat rendered moot as the aperture on the Xiaomi Ultras is incredibly wide as well lol but just throwing this in there. If they had a large sensor with a smaller aperture as compensation, then it'd all have been for nothing. For example the Find X7 Ultra's 6x and the Xiaomi 14 Ultra's 5x are quite close despite the native focal length difference due to the aperture difference. I do personally think the xiaomi is easily better than the x7 ultra's 6x at night, the shots are cleaner which are a result of the aperture.

Finally, keep in mind these are phones and have space constraints. I personally would love a variable zoom MFT lens on a phone but that's not possible. So a fixed main MFT cam at 23-35 mm and a 1" 46-70mm zoom lens would be dream phone for me. Realistic enough if done right. But you also must consider the fact that these are phone COMPANIES, they're BUSINESSES, thus they need to make phones people will buy. Not many people buy all these Ultras as it is right now, will they really buy such unwieldy beasts? Think, man.

                          Repeating same argument.

What about x200u will crop from uw to 23mm meanwhile the others won't?

Simply by focusing on the advantage that x200u they treat it like it's wrong and years back people were complaining that main cams are too wide.

You're cannot satisfy this i... Not even a bunch. Quite a lot!

                          Another parrot argument:

God. How many? How many people wrote that and still not enough they keep writing...

I watched plenty of side by side comparison x100u vs x200p and the difference is such less that it barely noticeable. Even at night.

X200p already destroys your beloved xiaomi with the main cam as well. Especially the portrait and night photography.

Yet, it's not enough for these.

Because farther reaching focal lengths require more space, and using already huge sensors alongside a farther reaching focal length would mean an unwieldly cameraphone. Look at this 1 inch 35 mm phone :

                                  https://www.gsmarena.com/heres_an_image_of_nubias_first_1inch_35mm_cameraequipped_phone-news-59696.php

Are you telling me you would have bought this? that people like you would not have complained? Realistically speaking far more people are likelier to buy a 35 mm 1/1.28" phone with a "usable" camera bump compared to this crater. Use your brain and think.

Admittedly, they could've gone for a better middle ground and used a 1/1.12" sensor but since the UW cam is absolutely massive, i think it's a worthy sacrifice. This phone will take better UW cam shots than anything else in the industry for years to come and no phone will match it at 35 mm? So tell me this, would Vivo even bother spending more for better sensors when they're already going to be the best? I'd have liked better stuff but doesnt make much sense from a business perspective either.

Let the phone come out, look at the comparisons with Oppo and others and judge it for yourself. This phone will beat the Pura 70 Ultra's 1 incher because the IMX989 is older and isn't as good in terms of processing capabilities. Only the LYT-900 is better and even then, the difference is only fairly visible in low light, due to improper/aggressive processing and when cropping in.

In short, unlike the X200 Pro, there's a real difference between the previous iteration and due to the change in focal length, it is more justifiable. Additionally wait for samples and compare em yourself, i highly doubt a 1 incher with a crop can handily beat a 1/1.28" at native focal length.

I simply sense a boycott from American chip manufacturers and critical phone components providers. Reason, if both google or apple can't stand against the technological advancements against them, they take this simple route. History repeats itself. Huawei was a victim, reason these companies simply cannot digest the fact that someone out there is doing much better job them.
