Just open Android/media/WhatsApp/media and take whatever you want. I always use this method to periodically "clean" my WhatsApp media so I keep only the important stuff and delete all the useless nonsense sent by my family and group chats.
It also makes backups much smaller, so faster to upload, encrypt and restore.
