Corvo7, 06 Apr 2025I have no idea from where you got those prices, but there... moreMy original response got deleted, presumably because it was just a link to one of the sales I was talking about on a sale sharing "social network" (name has to do with fire), but it's not hard to find.
For someone who even knows about Zona Franca de Manaus, you should know better than to look at physical store prices at all. It should be common knowledge by now that buying online is almost always much cheaper, which already puts the S25 Ultra (512GB) at R$8,099 at a reseller — almost 2 grand cheaper than the equivalent iPhone 16 Pro Max despite having a higher MSRP in the USA —, before we even get to Samsung's own sales.
It's also usually common knowledge to never buy at launch, and never straight from the manufacturer, but Samsung turned both of those on their heads the last 2 years or so. The MSRP keeps going up, yet the real prices stay the same or go down. That's the entire point of those utterly unhinged MSRPs — giving you 40–60% off the day of launch. Also to position themselves as a premium offering by oficially charging about the same as Apple. It's questionable how effective that strategy is, vs. shouting from the rooftops that you have a superior product for vastly cheaper, but what do I know, I'm not a marketing major.
Like I said, they charge peanuts here to anyone informed — those sales make Samsung devices vastly cheaper here than in the USA —, and therefore have no serious competition in the high-end unless you're buying Apple to show off. The Galaxy Book4 Ultra and Galaxy Watch Ultra (at least the latter of which is from Zona Franca de Manaus) were in similar situations: ~$1,300 here vs. $2,399 in the USA and ~$360 here vs. $649.99 in the USA.
Also, the federal minimum wage is R$1,518. It was supposed to be R$1,525, but there were some calculation changes.

Anonymous, 05 Apr 2025Reality check: The real price of the S25 Ultra (512GB) in i... moreI have no idea from where you got those prices, but there's a Samsung store near me and a S25 Ultra (512GB) price floats around ~R$10,000 (~$1.711) to ~R$12,000 (~$2054) on today's exchange rate ($1USD = R$5,842 BRL).
No offense, but you definitelly don't know what you're talking about. Prices of electronic devices in Brazil are stupidly high even if you produce them here. Samsung has a factory located on a free duty zone called Zona Franca de Manaus, located in Manaus, and everything produced there has several huge tariff isentions. Even so, Samsung asks R$10k for a smartphone in a country where the mininum wage is R$ 1525. The theatre of absurd.

potato4k, 06 Apr 2025Meh. These tariffs are basically negotiation strategy. Fo... moreWhite House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt accused Japan of imposing a 700% tariff on rice, and she was very wrong in that statement, hiding facts. The overall tariff on American goods in Japan is just 2.5%, yet the administration blamed them for the poor performance of American cars in Japan. It was just because the Japanese don't even drive big cars. What do you think negotiation will be like in this deal? Those tariffs are a trade deficit, and BCS Americans are the biggest consumers in this world. Whatever strategy they are trying is not good.

lewein, 06 Apr 2025There is no strategy, he bankrupted casinos and hotelsAnd what does that have to do with anything?
India is already in the process of a trade deal. The same goes for Vietnam. Politicians from other countries are responding, which is the point. This is a strategic move, albeit extreme, to push a re-negotiation.

Even if it means exploiting other countries. And these giant corps are spending a lot to put out propaganda on how bad tariffs are, and are actively influencing the market to look as poor as possible.
It's crazy how the same people that used to be against exploitation, pollution, and corruption are now completely in love with global trade because of TDS and the media. They need any reason to be upset and are desperately looking for ways as to why shipping unregulated $1 plastic sandals across the world is better than buying local
