The OnePlus 13T will likely be the first model to ditch the Alert Slider in favor of a smart button

Soso, 13 hours agoGood riddance. About time. Their alert slider (a copy of ... moreThat is true, the slider should be from side to side not up or down.
BUT... why are you cheering them for removing it? They should re-iterate on it to make it better, if they remove it we will all suffer because no other options exist.
I speculate that Apple has a patent over the slider & that's why no android phone has *fully* copied it yet... it's not rocket science.

YourLocalPhoneCritic, 8 hours agoYes. a switch with less modes is *superior* to a button! ... moreThat’s a big reason why I’m holding onto my iPhone 14 Pro Max for as long as I can, lol.

justasmile, 7 hours agoDo you not know why Apple made the action button to press a... moreWhy does the Action button need to be separate? Why not implement it into the power button via a double press (to check status) + press and hold (to switch status) ??? While voice assistants can be toggled via press and hold camera button / speech.
btw, i am referring to the checking state of the phone while it's in your pocket. Not when you're looking at it. 😂 (not to mention when it's face down on a table)
You're not a real busy person, therefore you'll not appreciate the slider. But there are a lot of busy people out there, business men & women in suits, seniors, hard working people who don't want to be distracted by their phone.
It's a much bigger deal than you think. I bet if somebody does a scientific study on crowd (A) who use phones with alert sliders vs crowd (B) with action buttons... the % probability of Crowd (B) phones accidentally ringing in public will be far greater than crowd (A).
Ever wonder why you don't hear a phone ringing in a closed opera concert? It's because everybody there is rich & most likely owns an iphone. (with an alert slider)
You can never bring poor people (who use androids with no alert sliders) into a closed concert hall & expect none of their phones to go off. Their phones will be ringing all the time & it will be distracting. That's why all of the poor people concerts are held outside, rich people on the other hand tend to host indoors and charge A LOT per ticket so that poor android users with their whiny kids are not invited. 🤯

... moreDo you not know why Apple made the action button to press and hold instead of pressing once?
When you press once, you can see the current state on the dynamic island (mute or ring)!

justasmile, 22 hours agoYou're funny.
You don't even want a superior bu... moreYes. a switch with less modes is *superior* to a button!
My biggest gripe switching from an iPhone to an Android was the fact that I had to pull my phone out of my pocket --> look down to the screen--> then swipe down with my finger--> then tap the quick switch toggle once. (sometimes tapping twice, since Android doesn't give me the option to make it TWO modes instead... 🤦♂️ I find the 3rd mode "silent with no vibrations" to be useless.)
It is a big deal for busy people with lives. Nobody wants to pull out their phone in front of others, it can be disrespectful & distracting. Busy people want something they could reach inside their pocket & never have to worry about their phone ringing in a public ceremony.
You CAN NOT know whether your phone is in ringer/silent with a button. However, with a two mode switch you can reach into your pocket --> *FEEL* the physical switch (without looking) & *KNOW* right away which mode it is. What's even better is if it's on a table, you can look from far away & *SEE* the orange color indicator.

Good riddance. About time. Their alert slider (a copy of Apple's) was designed wrong. Slider button should go/move in the direction of side-to-side (like Apple), and NOT up and down, or vertically.

Keeping the button debate aside, the small form factor and high battery capacity make this an interesting device for me. I hope it gets a global release.

First Oneplus phone rather than first phone. The find x8s series will launch this Thursday and will ditch the slider for a button also. The find x8 ultra launching on Thursday also will have this button instead of an alert slider. This should be a nice improvement over the alert slider
