vivo X200 Ultra is getting an add-on zoom lens

It will attach to the phone’s 200MP periscope cam and offer 8.7x optical zoom.

OneBraincelledWunkus, 17 Apr 2025well that's until you realize 8k is kind of useless an... moreLet me make it short, despite readout and bitrate challenges, be it 4K or 8K, given that I choose a brand with some quality processing, output is at least comparable in details (or use almost comparable if you want), so even if quality is worse, its way better than having just small part of that resolution.
For comparison in Mp from FHD to 4K, 8K - 2, 8, 32Mp.. Difference is obvious.
While we still use phones, not XR devices with their 3D recordings, resolution is the only thing which can make a memories more real. Being able to compare a difference between 4K and 8K on screen would be the easiest way, also lets not forget AI, which could improve that footage to like 3D etc. and given more resolution would be surely better.
I still remember people with nokia/lumia 1020 making fun of dslr/.. video recordings, basically its like with a poor lens in photography world, even if its bad, it got its charm of doing what quality ones are not able to...

        But Subject separation is already a thing in macro but also portrait when using phones like the Vivo X200pro Periscope.

        Of course it is still impossible to get any good natural subjects separation if the target you focus on is more than 5 Meters away.

        But I still say that a current flagship phone that isn't iPhone or Samsung is getting much closer than 2/3 of the quality.

        At least if we move in the same Price range of the phone.

        For 1000 bucks you need to buy the camera and the lenses.

            vrvly, 10 Apr 2025Bird photography monster 😂 This vs. 300-600mm f4 lens wou... morewell that's until you realize 8k is kind of useless and the results of oversampled 4k from whatever the actual resolution of the sensor is, like 6k or 6.5k in most cases which is 19mp and 24mp, 8k is 36mp btw, is what's actually useful and better. but at this point we have to take into account readout speeds and rolling shutter, which is the biggest thing preventing 8k recording because rolling shutter can get atrocious. on smaller sensors it's probably better because well they're physically smaller, but on a big full frame sensor it's another story, they do tricks like cropping to only read a smaller part of the sensor but then you loose the resolution of the sensor and the benefits of that and also the it changes you field of view so you'd need to change to a wider lens and it's a big hassle which is why recording video didn't really pick up on dslr until much later and why pro camcorders in the similar price ranges of dslr had really small sensors.

              Fa14bi, 11 Apr 2025why would I use an DSLR when a 5 Times lighter to carry aro... moreyou're right about everything except the like unrealistic quality percentages, a dslr with a really fast prime has extreme amounts of bokeh and subject separation you won't ever have on a phone. post processing ai shenanigans don't count(though let's be real, they're so bad, they don't even know the foreground has to also be blurred lol), though most people don't really see it right away, heck it took me a while to recognize what makes a photo taken with a full frame camera different that one taken with a phone, but now that I do I can't unsee it.

              Anyways it's more like 65% not 95%.

              Also dslrs are more or less dead, unless you're buying 2nd hand which you absolutely should, they're a steal compared to the new guys around the block, the mirrorless cameras. Just look at how much an a1ii is, 6k euros for 50mp? sheesh, for 1/6th you can get a 5dsr second hand that looks brand new and takes incredible photos.

                Saying new features were being added. I've never seen any problems with quality but they all remarked how good pics were with my Huawei p50 pro which was interesting.

                          If you are a Professional Photographer and want to earn money from your photos, get that last 5% of quality and take the DSLR, otherwise, why would I carry around so much right just to have to edit every picture for at least 5 Minutes to get that extra 5% of quality, it is not worth the effort or Time if you aren't ending up making money from it.

                            Center crop the Vivo to 7.4Times and you still have an 7.4x times zoom on 50MP and an Vurtual 1/2.8 Sensor.

                            That is still larger than the 1/3.08 5Times zoom on rhe iPhone.


                            Then Vivo can center crop again to 12.5MP at 1/5.6 and now the Virtual sensor is too small to be of any use at night but you do get 14.8Times clear daylight Photos.

                            The iPhone would be using 1.3MP @ 1/9.0 sensor at 15Times zoom which is in comparison to the Vivo completely unusable. Samsung would have 5.2MP native resolution @ 1/7.65 sensor size.

                            To conclude, Vivo simply outclasses them both in terms of hardware for zooming in pictures.

                            So does the new Xiaomi 15Ultra as well, but Xiaomi struggles a bit with the virtual center crop sensor software.

                              It's basically pointless, just like what Xiaomi did with their latest series. It loses the portability of a smartphone and can't keep up with the mirrorless camera. Unless it's somewhat a package like you get the whole kit when you purchase the phone, there won't be any chance for professional camera wannabe.

You have to hold it this way because it would make the phone very front-heavy, but the lens itself is fixed on the phone in one way or another when you use it.
