I think that such an add-on lens (in this case a 2.35x teleconverter) could be nice, if it's well implemented. This means that there needs to be autofocus and image stabilization and it shouldn't be cumbersome to attach it to the phone. It also shouldn't block the other smartphone cameras. And of course the image quality must be good.
Maybe it would make more sense to attach a larger tele camera (in a similar way as Xiaomi's micro four thirds camera module prototype) instead of attaching a lens to an existing camera.

Anonymous, 10 Apr 2025I cba to carry around more stuff than I already do. Wonder ... moreYeah, but those sensors are far smaller and lower-res; the only point at which it would be better is during the day, at 5x to about 8x.

I'm very much into hi res raws and eND on samsung, but this looks equally interesting.

Bird photography monster 😂
This vs. 300-600mm f4 lens would be interesting,
can't fight in low light, but for daylight photo/video...
Wait... it can probably record 8K... most full size cameras can't 😳😂

Like do you really consider tha... moreWell i judge it from the pictures in the article where i cant see it in the other way around. Even on the picture one hand is holding the telescope like that. The other picture of the thing dont even show any connection mechanism for it.
By the way even things like that in Aliexpress for 20 euro have a mount that attach to the phone so it wont move. I can't see any of that in this article so that is why i wrote it like that
Classical holding dont make sense when there is no thing that is shown how it connects with the camera island or something. Does it use vacuum or something ? Other phones with that type of thing have at least pictures made for not have misunderstandings like i have with this one

You can see in this picture the mount on the bottom of the lens. You'll also notice there is a push lock button to release the lens on the phone.

Like do you really consider that they a lens that you need to hold with your hand trying to keep it correctly in front of the sensor?
They've built a camera kit like Xiaomi and previous gens had. You can purchase that lens made by Zeiss and insert it with specific mechanism on that camera kit. It sits tight and well. You don't need to hold it with your hand.
What you see in the picture is a classical pose from a photographer. They usually stabilize those big dslrs lenses with their hand. That's all!

I cba to carry around more stuff than I already do. Wonder how many people will invest in this. Iphone 16 pro, Pixel 9 pro and s25 Ultra carry a 5x telephoto lense already, while X200 Ultra "only" 3,7x. Guess 5x will be enough for most occasions. That is, as long as you want to carry around a tele in your pocket to make sure people know your enthusiasm ;) If you really want 200 mp it tells alot about your photos I guess. But who knows. If this will be popular, I may get the next iteration .

YUKI93, 10 Apr 2025Trying to make a 5x zoom or 10x zoom mobile lens for the wi... morei understand that but if they really wanted to focus on the telephoto, at least a 3x zoom of the zoom lens was needed, not just a 2x one. The 2x crop is excellent enough already.
I guess they chose a healthy middle ground cus they have a lot of faith in their processing chops and dont really think anyone's gonna zoom all that far in a "casual" setting (cus yk it's a phone and it's not as professional as a huge dedicated cam).
Not a bad idea but idk, i like the 2x crop already, even a 2.5x zoom lens would've been nice. But hey man, better to have an official thing like this than to not. I just hope it isnt overpriced cus at that point it'd just be better to buy 3rd party ones.

So much nonsense, just give me a good main camera with everything and a good suitable periscope telephoto lens and that's it! Now take away the fact that you have to carry all those charros and especially to a concert 😅😅😅 nonsense... So much nonsense and you end up taking pictures of my cat, the dog, your girlfriend and the dinner of the special night... better give me a week of battery on a single charge
