AntonelPAPI, 12 Apr 2025Pixel 10 xl Knowing how extremely reluctant Google is when it comes to keeping their hardware specs competitive with the rest, I bet Google will use it when the entire highend smartphone market will have already moved onto micro four third sensors lol.

NeonHD, 13 Apr 2025Photos look a bit too sharpened imo. 1 inch sensor is nice ... moreSony's approach to JPEG post processing on Xperia is vastly different from that on the Alpha series - You can see that Xperia 1 VI applies a hefty amount of sharpening if you compare its image side by side with the one from X100 Ultra (Xperia is on the right):

Sharpening haloes are far more evident along the balcony, and planted trees and grasses have sharper edges with a lot more glitter in Sony's shot.
Xiaomi and Vivo really set the high bar regarding how straight-out-of-camera JPEGS are supposed to look. Oppo is now right up there if not better, while all the other manufacturers fall quite far behind in this area.

Nothing special...like all phones from at least 5 years ? Stagnation, lack of progress, boredom. Once there were duels, and today a new Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Sony, Samsung phone is one and the same. The cameras are practically the same in the next model, and sometimes even worse!

Photos look a bit too sharpened imo. 1 inch sensor is nice and produces shallower FOV, but a more natural/DSLR-like processing would be better here, similar to how Sony processes their jpegs.

Main and UW cam qualities don't excite me anymore, because they already reached the plateau. It's the periscope area that is still progressing steadily and has a long way to go. And I won't be satisfied until I could take pics at 100x (at least) in pure optical quality without the AI fakery

[deleted post]Apple's likely stuck with Sony, not because of the sheer light-gathering capability of the sensors but because of their readout speed. The ones inside iPhone 16 Pro are the only image sensors intended for mobile phones that can read out at 4K 240fps (since iPhone can now shoot in 4K120 and we all know iPhone combines two images for each frame). OV50X's highest quality multi-gain readout mode (DCG + LOFIC) is only available at 4K60, so it's possible that it wouldn't be able to meet the requirement that Apple specifies.
This doesn't mean that Apple's approach to extending dynamic range is fundamentally better, however. Frame stacking in video recording will always introduce ghosting artifacts in one way or another and severely limit the longest shutter speed that could be used for each frame. Apple chose to compromise in these areas to deliver a wider range of resolution and frame rate options while keeping the footage quality consistent across all of them.
