WiMAX-enabled HTC MAX 4G comes exclusive to Yota Russia

And listen, guys, this WiMAX network is not as speedy as it seems. It gives about 4-5 Mbps downlink and 1-1,2 Mbps uplink, average ping is about 200 ms. So the 3G/HSPA and EV-DO Rev.A networks (we have all kinds of this here in St.Petersburg) aren't much slower. The only thing that rules in WiMAX is QoS support so you can easily use VoIP, for example.
The trick is that the provider (Yota) has only 1 modem and 1 handset available - the 3G and EV-DO providers have a much wider assortment of much cheaper device (e.g. you have to buy a modem for $150 to use WiMAX, but you get a modem for free if you prefer to use EV-DO Rev.A from the provider named Sky Link.
The people can afford to buy HTC Max, however, I don't think Yota will be able to sell a lot of these devices, just because it's a device for tech geeks and there aren't lots of geeks in any country.

What about 3G - in St.Peterburg there are three 3G networks, in other regions at least one. Only Moscow lacks 3G because the corresponding frequencies are already in use by some military systems.

This is amazing... I mean, come on ppl!!!! READ d article b4 u comment!!!!! 4G is simply used as a terminology for the handset's name so that it will sound more attractive n flashy... Russia does not even have an active 3g network, HOW ON EARTH WILL IT HAVE A 4G!?!?!?!?!?!? come on, gsmarena guys know what they talk about... They are saying that Wimax is simply a WiFi kind of wireless network, but it can cover huge areas, such as a whole city. There is a difference between that and 4G, 3g, etc. HSDPA, UMTS, etc are celular technologies designed for data transfer, not wireless networks with hotspots! come on people! Don't be ignorant, read the thing first! Another thing, Russia is a huge country, with all sorts of people, rich and poor. NOW, most of you who are not russian go to cities such as Moscow and St. Petersburg, lovely cities, extremely luxurious, etc. But listen, hey, go to the rest of russia and you will realize its not that much of a big deal. I am israeli, and there are over 1.5 million russians there, in a population of less than 9 million ppl! And guess what, they say Israel has a better economy. Now israel's economy is not as good as America's. So guess what, America has a BETTER economy than Russia! Reason before you write stuff!!!

Play hockey and wait when 4G networks will be available in Canada (1-2 years probably). In Russia 4G network is already active so this device will have much use when it comes out.

This WiMAXphone is fabulous! Unfortunately, its only the rich that can afford it for now. Before it trickles down to the the average person, it will be years. When will it be launched in South Africa?

This is great for the WiMAX in general but us in US might have to wait a while or maybe some other handsets from other manufacturers.

Seriously though, he is right, Russia isn't poor anymore! This is probably one of the best places to release a phone of this calibur. Looks awesome i wish that we could get one, but in the US there is not as big of a market as you might think for this, nor the WiMax network in place.

people people y u gotta be so ignorant? wake up russia is taking over, they r not poor anymore, u all just watch to much of bbc lol. they got allot of rich people over there. i go there every year and they what luxury is, plus im sure htc knows that otherwise they would never make a device for that amount.
they will never sell this device or touch hd here in u.s. cause people dont know about it or want it( most of them). verizon represent lol.
e are just full of it here, the only european brand we know off is mer. benz. and still will never buy one. cause we are proud americans and e gonna buy a cadillac and take it to auto shop every half a year lol. thats ehy are economy is down, we were so proud of are own (made in china) everybody else turned around from us.

ugh! when can the US get a decent phone other than the Iphone. Not saything this is the great phone but its better than the alternatives i have with my provider Verizon. They are so far behind on good touch screen phones, its really really annoying.
