very cool
but I couldn't help but notice-
Repairability: spare parts must be made available by manufacturers for 7 years after the end-of-sales date
also, Software: 7 years of software support after the end-of-sales date
that means, if a phone is released in 2025, is sold until 2027, then the spare parts and software support have to be provided until 2034! Am I getting this right?
If this is true, we might see manufacturers selling a particular model for a very short time.
Anyhow, I'm skeptical about the repairability and software support ambitions presented here. I think phones with lower repairability and software support will continue to sell in the EU - they just won't get the new energy efficiency label.

seeing 48h battery endurance tells me enough this sticker will be completely useless, they should better use SOT

Man, I am loving this step so much. Definitely in the right direction. Now may be more and more manufacturers will take this shite seriously the world over.
Now if we could just get the EU to pass some laws relating to PWM in OLED displays, that'd be great.

Anonymous, 21 Apr 2025Sorry man, we don't care about that here, the CO2 wast... moreTypical western chauvinist drivel. This is bs, and you should know that. The global north - especially the US, UK, and the EU - have three times the per capita GHG emissions of the global south. The UK and EU member nations have GHG emissions per capita ranging between 1.5 and 5 times per capita emissions from the global south. And that isn't even taking into account western manufacturing work outsourced to global south nations because of cheap labour, or emissions from mining (including oil & gas drilling) taking place in global south territories but carried out by global north companies.

Okayyyy! I like this! Finally something good. And just if removable batteries start from 2027 as they say, it's gonna be even better.

5 years software support from when the phone stops being sold rather than from it's launch date is a pretty awesome improvement!

EU consumers winning again. Hopefully manufacturers will also ship products with these stickers outside EU too, fingers crossed.

The EU once again focusing on what matters: ending our decades-long stagnation by de-regulating like Mario Draghi accurately described. Oh wait...

I wonder if the pish for bigger battery size was because OEMs knew this was coming
Very interesting indeed

"The Ecodesign label is part of a wider EU campaign aimed at improving energy efficiency by 2030. The initiative is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by 46 million tonnes and save each household an average of €150, on top of the savings already achieved through existing ecodesign measures."
You know what else that could reduce CO² emissions? Stop using private jets. It's ironic to see World Leaders, Billionares and Celebrities talking about Global Warmings while they are traveling with "private" jets that produce a shit ton of them with each flight.
And no, we're not even talking about industrial waste, powerplants, deforestation and peoples' bad habits yet.

5 years of software updates is a welcomed requirements, although imo Google should've been the progenitor by simply adding that requirements to device certification.
Now I seem to understand why suddenly mid to low end devices are getting IP rating and/or durability certifications. The OEMs probably already knew about this way in advance.
