HMD Skyline 2 is coming, here's when

21 April 2025
It will unsurprisingly be the successor to the original Skyline from last year.

ThunderCrackR, 21 hours agoHopefully, this time with more years of software support. I was thinking the same as well. HMD naturally outshines the competition for introducing lesser bugs over time (doesn't mean that their devices are bug-free in the earlier stages), and the unlockable bootloader is a win-win for developers. They can consider including a Dimensity chipset in place of the 7s Gen 2 (overpowered for most average users, but still), or a SD 8s Gen 3 is just as fine.

hope it comes with sd slot & 3.5mm jack

          HMD Skyline Squared?

I wish they'd put more effort into their software.

Hopefully, this time with more years of software support.

                "4,600 mAh battery "

                This is just disrespectful

If they don't give Skyline 2 a Snapdragon Elite and 5-10 years of security updates and a headphone Jack:

They'll receive another Wooden Spoon from MrWhoseTheBoss and/or the Bust Of The Year award.

If this comes in at 500 against the Pixel 9a I'm sorry to say it just won't work.

I liked the Skyline 1 but the battery capacity, camera and overall price was too high. If Skyline 2 comes in as expensive it becomes DOA again.

Shamrock Sean, 22 Apr 2025Up their game you mean not thereIf you mean the typo then yes, I placed a verb where possessive pronoun should be. (Mistakenly)

If you mean Nokia not being their game, well... They bought the company. It is indeed their game now.

I don't know how to love this design.
It looks like weird looking case

TBH, like BEING REALLY FAIR TO HMD AND ALL!

Skyline is a good base where they can start building off something great. It's not the best device out there but out of the gate it came out with competent specs. I would just upgrade the CPU for the current SD 7s Gen 3, and focus on improving the camera system and software performance for now. Rinse and repeat for 3 gens while keeping the same price, and obviously putting more ram/storage & upgrading the CPU, and if possible, bringing back the 3.5mm jack to have another sale point.

And after those 3 gens, tweak and improve the design in order for it to be more faithful to the fabula design of old. No need to be changing the design each year if the rest of the package is not good.

Let's be honest with ourselves here: most chips are overpowered for just social media stuff, and theiy mostly throttle and waste energy because no one cares about improving software to make good use of them (no one aside from Apple & Microsoft it seems). Android specially still seems to be very single core oriented, and you can notice it when you install apps on older devices nowadays (think SD 835-865). Those CPUs are not new but no slouch at all either, but they stutter when running the package installer nowadays probably because it's using a single core to push all binaries around, which is something that never happened on Windows Phone nor iOS at the time and even now.

I have notices this same behavior in Android 8, 9, 10, 11 & even 12! Idk if too much cache or something causes it but its annoying sometimes. Maybe it has gotten fixed in the latest releases but I doubt it.

GSMarena had covered some "leaks" a few phones from HMD that ultimately never came (Atlas, Ridge Pro, Hyper). Hopefully this time it will

It will definitely run on a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3

catlikehana, 22 Apr 2025i like the idea but the design does not look good, if they ... moreI agree with you. I was excited about the fabula design revisit, but when I got the phone in my hands, it kind of looked uglier the more I looked at it. It looked nothing like my lovely Lumia 520. The generic camera island, the hole punch, and the huge size and extreme bulk of Skyline only made it worse for me.

I would like it more if they go for a smaller design, keep some bezels and let go of the hole, and keep a Lumia/Asha style camera layout.

Another wild wish that I have is for them to remake those Asha phones, maybe not the exact design, but something small with a physical keypad and a touchscreen, maybe a qwerty keypad phone. That would be so good.
