MSXTurbo-R, 24 Apr 2025I'm a fan of Japanese electronics and entertainment br... moreXperia is completely finished. Sony won't admit it because they're too arrogant, just like they were with their stupid PlayStation. They won't announce their departure publicly like LG did, but expect Xperia to be exclusively for Japan from now on, like the Sharp Aquos. LG isn't dead yet, but they're exclusive to Korea.

The problem is, Nips don't even buy Xperias anymore and have switched to #TeamPixel because Sony is a garbage company. Even Sharp Aquos looks cooler than Xperia.

Let's hope Sony has upgraded the screen and increased the support window since last time. I'm not asking for a '4K' screen or 10 years of updates, but for Galaxy Ultra money I do at least expect it to have more than 400ppi and 4 years of total support.

does the ultra wide have a variable lens as well, or is the reflection?

Probably skipping the U.S. I reckon with the 1 VII.

But they give it a pass because it has headphone jack and micro SD.

Sony should discontinue this. Develop new pro-i with 8elite and call it 1vii.

MSXTurbo-R, 24 Apr 2025I'm a fan of Japanese electronics and entertainment br... moreI would LOVE the Xperia 1 VII to be great and successful because I endorse Sony's strategy of providing analog audio output and exchangable storage (microSD). I also adore Sonys extremely natural rendering of fine texture, e.g. foliage or grass.

That being said, the performance of their full optical telezoom just falls behind the hybrid tele lenses of other flagship cameraphones - mainly because of the lenses (images are just less sharp and less detailed at comparable focal length) or very limited light gathering capabilities (small sensor area).

That's why I WISH Sony would beef up their sensors - most importantly the tele and the ultrawide ones. The main camera WA sensor is excellent, though.

Finally, only Asia or available in Europe ?
GSM Arena really remains the most reliable source for the world of mobiles. It is not constantly talking about rumors that are false, but this one worries me a lot.

It will be really disappointing if it’s exactly the same phone other than a newer CPU. Only Apple can pull that nonsense! The screen is now one of the lowest resolution ones on a flagship after they dropped the 4K. The cameras are only average for a flagship and with no improvement will lag behind others getting newer and better sensors.

CargoJoe, 24 Apr 2025Here's hoping for 1/2 inch sensor on the other ultrawi... moreThe volume of the sensor is three times larger at 1/2.0" as at 1/2.9" (and 5.5x last year's sensor) and needs either a full centimeter of space at its lowest zoom (Hello, Vivo!) or to have a mirror and clever engineering (which they do).

There's no way they can keep the same body dimensions and have a 90-deg-mounted 1/2" with an f-stop lower than f/2.8 at 130mm---a focal length where the sensor would need to be nearly an inch from the lens.

No matter what, the Exmor T is a beast and the thing will make great photos at whichever specs they choose. I, would hope they choose a prime length, as wide and as far back from the main lens as the battery and shock tolerance allows (aiming for 85mm and wide-open as possible e.g. f/2.2 although there's probably a lot of stuff in the way) but I can understand how "most" users would want a variable length or higher pixel count.

Also, why pixel bin the main and make the telephoto 12MP? I'd rather have a 50MP (or higher) prime telephoto that can digitally zoom as needed without appreciable loss in detail and slap a huge-pixeled 12MP on the main at 27, 28, or even 30 mm plus an ultrawide at 18 instead of 16.

Regardless, I'd be delighted to own another Xperia even at the higher price point. I love each of the colors and the overall mechanical design. Sure, they miss some things like flashlight brightness and no decent glove mode and jumping from 4K straight to CNC mill touchscreen resolution for one generation and not having as sweet of an amp as LG in its prime, but they get 95% of the features about 95% from perfect and then charge 190% of what the Chinese competition asks.

This is the opposite product strategy as the Pixel, and I'm all for it.

King-Miracle, 24 Apr 2025No silicon carbon battery? Boring. 😮‍💨Xperia 1 VI's active use score is on par with or higher than most phones with 6000-6500mAh Si/C batteries. Clearly Sony doesn't need them

Back to tall ratio again plz

I used too have pretty much all of them since Xperia 1. And Xperia 1 III was in my posession the longest period of time - around one year. All of them had underwhelming cameras or the best in vacuum if you like. Pretty sure X VII will be another flop.

I definitely miss the 1 IV purple a lot. It's a really good looking colour.

Ottonis, 24 Apr 2025Apparently, Sony seems not to be very committed to their sm... moreThey may need to tone down the camera app UI but their imaging is just fine. If you want the buzzword AI photography then I'm afraid and hopeful that SONY will never go that route.

They gave excellent natural photography, real photography, and people like myself love it

I'd like to see better, larger camera sensors like the IMX 925 and a bigger 2:1 display but other than that Sony is perhaps the only company I'll defend for not changing just for the sake of it.

They are serious about it all and if I remember correct, they put out a statement saying they won't quit making smartphones anytime soon.

They had a huge contribution in developing rechargeable batteries and popularising 18650 cells.

Most Japanese brands have a habit of not jumping onto the latest and greatest because of their nature to test things out first. Unless something proves reliable, Japan does not accept it, hence their reputation for making highest quality products.
