Nick Tegrataker, 24 Apr 2025"If you want the buzzword AI photography then I'm... moreI get your point but last I heard those apps were merged into one or upstreamed to the Xperia Pro line exclusively (bad move I agree).
Speaking of "AI" I've never seen a compelling case for it to infest photography. Call me a boomer but I prefer photography remain a representation of the users imagination, skills and capabilities rather than an apps ability to lie.
Their price and scarce availability stings me a lot too but they are at least to me the last brand keeping a full fledged (physical feature wise) flagship smartphone going.
Given the opportunity to own one of the modern flagships ad my primary phone, I think Xperia 1 series matches most of my needs or at least better than the rest.
Probably and unpopular take but I don't think we can blame Sony alone for getting complacent, the entire industry has become so. To me Sony doesn't seem as malicious as Samsung and Apple if I'm being honest.

DBS, 24 Apr 2025Until they do a proper Compact version of it, I don't ... moresub 6 inch phones are dead, nobody wants those anymore, if they did we would still have them, they don't sell as much to justify cost, 6"- 6.2" is the new compact, take it or leave it

DBS, 24 Apr 2025Until they do a proper Compact version of it, I don't ... moreI used to have a compact ZX2 and I'm sorry that Sony has abandoned this format. For me, 140mm is the optimum height, once they switched to phablets I switched to Samsung.

Ehh, it's not that they are not trying to follow "AI buzzword", but more like they just don't seem to care enough to keep their enthusiastic fans satisfied with new features and upgrades (as made evident by the removal of Photo Pro, Video Pro and Cinema Pro apps on their latest flagship and the seemingly discontinued Xperia 5 series - which, at least from what I can see, have disappointed a fair portion of its fanbase).
I use a7IV myself, and all I can feel from the Xperia 1 series is that they are simply trying to make a less competent version of their own dedicated cameras. Sony doesn't seem to put a lot of effort into leveraging Snapdragon SoCs' superior processing power to the fullest extent to improve the usability or image quality on their phones. Poor portrait mode, no multi-frame RAW, an unusable telephoto camera in low light, still no customisable Creative Look, no Picture Profile on photo mode.. Is shooting in LOG and manually colour-grading the footage still mandatory for us to get an actually good-looking video out of the latest Xperia?
"they put out a statement saying they won't quit making smartphones anytime soon"
Sony said that they want to continue their smartphone business to maintain their communication technology as they expect mobile communication to be an important factor in the 5G era. I'm not sure if they are too keen on making a compelling product at this point.

Until they do a proper Compact version of it, I don't care. (and no, the Xperia 5 was NEVER that).
Sony's hardware is great. It's the only phone that does it properly without any missing basics.
But the software experience is absolute garbage so the size is the tie-breaker. And in its current oversized form, it breaks the tie against me going back to their phones unfortunately.

No wonder their mobile division is dying, no innovation whatsoever.

We just need a better tele. The bump in thickness might indicate that. And the purple look good, remind me of the Xperia Z times.

King-Miracle, 24 Apr 2025No silicon carbon battery?
Boring. 😮💨Check the 1VI battery runtimes and tell me if it really need a Si-C battery.
Even this year's flagship can't quite match its endurance

1. Same Display specs.
2... moreSony is the only phone manufacturer I'm currently interested in. But what should they offer? Two headphone jacks? A 50,000 mAh battery? Ten cameras? Be real—the phone industry is struggling to bring anything truly new to the table, apart from upgrading the main chip. Yet, they keep releasing new models every year, or even every few months.
They might offer improved cameras or new types of batteries (though not all models get them), and that's about it. So why should Sony be any different?
Personally, I love the design and specs. But there are two things I don’t like: the price and the availability. The price is way too high, and these phones vanish quickly from shops in the EU (where I live), mostly because the hype around Apple and Samsung is so strong. If you show a Sony phone to someone, they’ll probably laugh and ask, “Since when does Sony make phones?

If they made the purple a bit more pale like it is on iPhone 14 Pro Max, it will be more premium.

Anonymous, 24 Apr 2025I always find it funny how people complain so much that Sam... moreI'm not complaining at all that Sony, Apple and Samsung are concentrating solely on the content of their flagship smartphones and are not interested in the form (or at the margin, what they call a “revolution” when everyone can see that it's just a question of details). These three flagships are perfectly identifiable. Generally speaking, everyone expects a new luxury car to resemble the previous model, and it's when this isn't the case that there's a scandal (for example, at Jaguar). That's what we call building a brand and reassuring the consumer.

Moreover, in the reference numbers of the Sony Xperia 1 VII you are missing a reference number, so are there fewer models or fewer regions sold; that scares me, I could order it from Japan, it will be missing a few bands, but avive all the risks of not having the French language in the phone
