Weekly poll: would you buy a vivo X200 Ultra if you could? What about a vivo X200s?

27 April 2025
Alas, the company has not revealed plans for a global launch of one of the best camera phones of 2025.

My answer is "No, they're both ridiculously oversized".

ProMaxUltraAreBricks, 27 Apr 2025Vivo could have used a smaller tetraprism zoom module like ... more"a smaller tetraprism zoom module like the 5x optical zoom"
Lmfao, no. A Tetraprism or any All-Lens-on-Prism periscope sacrifices the minimum focusing distance for a smaller package. Using such a design would've made its 85mm equivalent telephoto camera far less practical as it would struggle to focus remotely close to you (To give you a perspective, both iPhone 16 Pro's 120mm full frame equivalent telephoto lens and Find X8 Ultra's 135mm equiv. tele have around 1m of minimum focus distance - X200 Ultra's 85mm equiv. tele, assuming it performs similarly to X100 Ultra's, can focus down to ~10cm).

      "200MP sensors.."
"If you're going to make a big phone with the biggest camera bump, the camera specs should be truly revolutionary."

What would be the point of having a 200MP sensor on the main camera anyway? Designing a sharp wide-angle lens is a lot harder than designing a sharp telephoto lens, and even then, the centre portion of such a lens would struggle to resolve even half of that resolution. Is having a flagship sensor on all three cameras, which no one else has ever done before, really not "truly revolutionary"?
Like, I don't mind having a 3mm thicker camera bump if it would mean that I could have a type 1 sensor behind a 35mm equivalent lens, because anything would be still thinner and lighter than the most compact camera I have (Fuji X100) anyway, but implying that Vivo could've fit a larger sensor while keeping the size of the camera bump the same sounds pretty absurd to me.

Unlikely I think, but not because it's a bad phone.

It's got the same issues as nearly every phone now in that they're cutting costs with the lack of 3.5mm port and SD card slot, I realise a lot of people don't care about either but it would cost Vivo basically nothing to include it (and I use the 3.5mm constantly so it's an actual deal breaker). Plus side they put USB3 on it which is also a thing that a lot of people don't really use but costs literally nothing, which helps a fair bit if you can't use cloud for backups.

Also from the specs it's just a OnePlus 13 with better cameras that I don't care about because I don't take pictures. Maybe it's got better compatibility with standard fast chargers but I also don't care about that as it's just going on a wireless pad regardless.

Don't really know how to feel about this. On one hand this is easily the best cameraphone out there, at least for stills, bar none. But it also has inferior charging, thermals, battery life and speakers compared to the Find X8 Ultra and the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. I mean those 2 phones weren't really Earth-shattering, they were quite mid of an upgrade overall considering what the previous phones did, but it still goes to show why Vivo's so GOATED ig, always being the best in the respective price class, for the most part.

Even if I were to accept these flaws, this phone doesn't have the additional "wow factor" that Xiaomi and Oppo phones have, the Fujifilm partnership would've fixed it but sadly that didn't happen. Xiaomi has the Leica style, Oppo's Auto mode is already nice but the Master Mode takes it to another level entirely, Vivo doesn't really have that. And videography is still behind iPhones. Focus hunting, stabilisation and improper noise reduction being the biggest culprits for it.

Whatever the case im somewhat conflicted on this. But ig there can never be any "perfect" phone. Ig i'd have bought it if it were available near me with global services intact, something that can be brought with updates (android auto) can also be taken away with them, so i dont really trust it too much. China-only phones are made with China so they don't really care about fixing stuff that's broken for global people.

Great phone, with just enough flaws to "fix" with the next iteration.

No, and no. I don't like fake cameras. It's either a design flow, or a mockery.
Also, I won't buy the Xiaomi 15, for the same reason. You don't do such nasty things in premium class. People, wake up and sanction those bas tard s.

The aspect ratio being square-ish means you dont really get too many benefits in most videos and the screens not really being that much bigger makes it not worth the hassle of having a more fragile phone with worse battery and cameras.

Ottonis, 27 Apr 2025Exactly! Some people complain about the 1/1.28"-sensor... morethe 1/1.28" 35 mm sensor goes toe to toe with the Find X8 Ultra so well im telling you, 90-95% of people wouldnt be able to tell it's a smaller sensor without someone telling em. Ofc there's a focal length disparity but still, the light intake difference shouldn't result in this i think. Going to show how strong Vivo's processing truly is.

Some people complain about the 1/1.28"-sensor being an "downgrade" from the 1"-sensor of the X100 Ultra. However, one should have in mind that having three equally very good sensors provides a constantly high image quality across a wide range of focal lengths (14mm - 35mm - 85mm) instead of having great image quality at only one focal length (e..g. 23mm) and much worse quality at the other focal lengths.

Ottonis, 27 Apr 2025The vivo X200 ultra is probably the most significant camera... moreIt's not THAT great. The ZTE phones have had 35 mm for a little while and a little gem called the Find X6 Pro came out 2 years ago with a similar idea, with ofc a far smaller UW cam but still the idea was the same, get 3 "main sensors" for each camera.

Instead of being revolutionary i'd call this an evolution. It took the Find X6 Pro and took it to 11, providing 3 excellent focal lengths alongside sensors which perform well at nearly any situation.

The 808 pureview can still smack this phone in a RAW mode head to head im sure. AND that phone was naturally high res, no stacking or anything like that, just pure pixel power and its high res shots looked great, unlike modern phones. So yeah, although i love this phone and its output, it's not a revolution. Perhaps it COULD be counted as that cus it's a big player ditching some industry traditions, that is the largest sensor being the main cam and also the main cam being 23-27 mm, but still, it's not THAT crazy.

foldables are messing up this kind of surveys - cause after owning Honor V3 i would never switch to a normal phone. ...doesn't meen its bad, actually I would consider x200u IF i were buying such phones, but I'm not any more. Vivo's foldable maybe.
