The IPhone 16 pro max is the number one selling phone in China so far this year followed by the IPhone 16 pro and then the IPhone 16. This is despite the two pro models not qualifying for the state subsidy and only the lower storage variants of the 16 qualifying.

Anonymous, 28 Apr 2025"And Chinese phone manufacturers are nowhere to be see... moreFunny, that "no competition" argument applies even better in China, doesn't it? Except there, the "barrier" isn't just policy, it's how willing companies are to accept with state censorship, citizen spying, blocking apps on demand, and giving access to user data like iCloud.

Maybe that's the real competition local brands ace over there.

Anyway, I live in the EU and here we actively fight GAFAM overreach for consumer rights and privacy, a very different approach than either the US or China.

                  What "competition" ?
You mean the race to appease china with the most censorship and spying on their own citizens? Apple's playing hard, just look at their China owned iCloud state or banned apps like WhatsApp, Threads, Signal and banned VPNs. BBK's brands are already experts at it.

Samsung should probably just exit the China market altogether for the better.

Here in the EU, we actually fight GAFAM tech giant overreach. That "win" based on compliance in China doesn't exactly translate to global dominance where freedom matters more. You cannot defend China.

Not surprised at all. Xiaomi's store openings have been crazy in the last two years. Where I live the number of own brand stores of the 3 major Chnese Android brands within 10km of my apartment is as follows
                              Xiaomi 26
                              Oppo 8
                              Vivo 5

Xiaomi vastly outnumbers the others and offline stores are vital for marketing and ultimately sales. The entry into the car market seemed to give them a huge boost

Having said that even though Apple isn't doing so well, the top 3 selling phones in China so far this year are still
                              The iPhone 16 pro max
                              The iPhone 16 pro

I don't care who is in first place. Even if Xiaomi will have 99% market share and Apple 1%.
My first iPhone was iPhone 8 Plus. Until then I had only Android phones. Since then I was back and forth between Android phones and iPhones.
Android phones are better than in the past. But for me, iPhones are just more appealing.

I had a Pixel 8 Pro and a Galaxy S25 Ultra. Sell them both and I bought an iPhone 16 Pro Max. My previous iPhone, was iPhone 14 Pro Max.

I am not saying I don't like Android phones (and I will probably buy them in future too), I just like iPhones more. Also, I don't care who is in first place, or who sells more. I don't have shares in any company, lol.
