Three finger gesture is very easy. But other ways are available too, on Xiaomi for example you set it up many ways, such as long press any of the three navigation buttons or even double tap/triple tap at the back to take screenshot, doesn't need anything floating on the screen like Sony.

Bravosixgoingdark, 02 May 2025Sony's side sense can be set that sliding the edge of ... moreOf course it works, you can double tap to take screenshot, you can slide up to take screenshot or you can slide down to take screenshot. The best part it's a one hand gesture, you don't need to use two hands. But you also don't need to use two hands even if you want to take a screen shot by holding down power button + volume down cause Sony has put them close to each other and Sony phones are narrow enough so you could do it with a hand you are holding your phone with.
But you are replying to people who have never used new gen Xperia devices, but they are first to tell you "fun facts" which are not facts at all but inaccurate nonsense. Fun fact is that he also considers 3 finger tap and hold as some sort of a shortcut when in reality that's a two hand gesture as no way you can hold 3 fingers on of the same palm you are holding your phone with. Stock Android screenshot action where you hold volume down and power button actually makes more sense than 3 finger tap and hold and in Sony's case it's a one hand gesture.

Anonymous, 02 May 2025The smartphone market is completely saturated and crowded. ... moreI agree. I want Xiaomi, Oppo, vivo and Huawei to die. I think we would benefit a lot from it as they are spamming planet earth with dozens of same devices each year and they do not bring nothing to Android market. So our planet would be a lot better without these polluters.

Currently using an xperia 5 II with android 12, there is no issue whatsoever. I will upgrade to the 1 VII and even if they don't offer stellar software support I will not care. Sony does what no other company, it's not a loyalty to the brand but to the features.

They keep making the same mistakes. Released too late (6 months after other competitors) with older Android version on release, same design with mediocre cameras, overpriced. Xperia Pro I was my last Sony phone, not gonna use Sony phones again

Fun fact, in Xperia phones there's no gesture to capture screenshot! Virtually every UI out there supports some sort of gesture to capture screenshot, such as 3 finger swipe (Pixel, Xiaomi, Asus), 3 finger hold (Motorola), palm swipe (Samsung). But none with Sony.

WildFire, 02 May 2025I think the price is still the biggest issue. I've had... moreYour logic
My product cost 100 to be made.
Your product costs 100 to be made.
You think I should sell mine for 400, while you sell yours for 700.
Great 👍🏻
Low volume. Most components are custom.
Xperia is as expensive as iphones to make.
You want it to be sold for 25-30% lower price.

I am actually quite intrigued and can't wait what Sony will actually deliver.
One favourite feature of the Xperia 1 line has always been that it sits perfectly in one's hand and in the jeans pocket - it's so compact and with a very ergonomical form factor.
The announced "tuned by Walkman" is also something that may make quite a few audiophiles turn their head. I remember the "good old days", when particularly the LG V line of phones had quad DAC / impeccable sound quality, or some Nokia Lumia phones who had special inside microphone contraptions being able to record distortion-free audio even at deafening sound level pressures (e.g. front stage at rock concerts). If Sony delivers at the audio-department, this would definitely attract quite a few people who grew up with audiophile equipment such as the Mini Disk or portable recorders etc.
Another asset is battery life. Last year's Xperia 1 vi was already at the top of battery longevity rankings and Sony announced that the mark VII would top last year's results by another "5 hours" so there is hoping that the Xperia 1 vii may very likely be the battery king again - who knows, maybe they crammed a new battery with even higher capacity into the phone.
Last but not least: Sony definitely needs to update the tele zoom camera. While its optical zoom is a great idea, the sensor has been just too small in order to be competitive with periscope tele lenses of competitive smartphones. WHil I definitely LOVE Sony's very natural rendering of images, they would definitely benefit from a beefier sensor and a sharper lens.
So, fingers crossed!!
