Xiaomi, Oppo, vivo and OnePlus are rumored to be exploring the idea of Android without Google

02 May 2025
Xiaomi is said to lay the groundwork for that with HyperOS 3. Huawei is allegedly also involved with the project - the company already has its own Google-free platform.

Many Nigerian banking apps and social media apps are already there in Harmonyos app galary.

When I download the app galary store on my android phone, it work well, many apps restricted by Google on playstore.

I was able to download it through app galary.

If Harmonyos phone started flooding on Africans market, Google will be Force to build native apps for Harmonyos next.
The way it builds them for both windows and apple ecosystems.

Mark my words, since Google wants her apps to be used by everyone, around the world,

Google will be force to build, YouTube, Gmail, map, etc even the native playstore for Harmonyos.

We know Google stratages,.

You ask "why the lack of maps application"????
Answer: Gmaps is not the only maps application

Apple have their own maps application
Windows also have their own maps application
Huawei have their own maps application too

Many people is NOT brand minded, and *MUST* use certain apps/brand.

Google maps have other alternative too

Asia will be good they don't use Google services and have alternative. But outside of asia their profits will be dropped almost to 0 like Huawei is now.
Russians will find an alternative to use Chinese phones more easily than the rest of the world, Africa will use whatever phone they can, but Europeans are too dependent on Google services.

It was necessary to create an alternative a long time ago and not rely on an American OS, but the only company that had the resources and means was Nokia before 2010. They were unable to make the transition quickly enough with the introduction of touchscreen devices. And they decided then to use Windows, which was quite good as an OS and its features were introduced many years later in Android. But because the developers did not want to develop applications for another OS, no matter how much money they poured into MS, it was not possible.
Like any future OS, if it is not, so to speak, approved by developers to develop applications for it and release rapid updates to these applications in sync with Android and iOS, it will die quickly like windows phone/mobile.

In the modern world where more and more devices are starting to rely on their connectivity - phones, watches, smart kitchen appliances, smart cars, etc. - relying on one or two OS from the US could mean if they want banning the respective OS and literally causing an entire country to stop functioning and return them to the Middle Ages.

They could make the best OS you could think of (highly far fetched to begin with), but it won’t go anywhere outside China. Google wouldn’t be bothered to make any apps on it.

Again, this has happened before. Windows Phone. Windows Phone was superior than Android in many ways back then, especially in smoothness of the UI on the same hardware and the innovative UI/UX. Yet what happened? No Gmail, no YouTube, no Google Maps, nobody will use your smartphone OS, no matter how good it is without Google.

That’s the sad reality. And I’m no Google fan. I was adamant that there should be regulations to force Google to unbundle Chrome from Android as one step to reduce the extreme reliance on Google. But I’m not naive. These Chinese OEMs are poor at software to begin with, let alone making their own OS. I mean how long did it take Huawei to get to HarmonyOS? And that’s Huawei who had the resources.

Pixels are the worst phones I have ever used. Overheating, horrible display, tiny sounding speakers, network issues, poor battery life, and horribly slow charging. Apple's iOS doesn't even make sense to me and feels like a perfected useless toy OS for golden-spoon children. It's time for other brands like Chinese ones to do something bigger and better than the westerners'.

Not just Chinese phone vendors, Samsung was always ready for the eventual weaponising of tech by the US. They've always maintained their own version of phone apps and appstore and their own supply of chips so they can be completely independent of US tech/Google when the hammer hits. It's interesting that Samsung was more prepared for this than Chinese phone vendors even though South Korea is such a staunch US ally. Maybe South Korea knows more about the US than China does having dealt with them more closely.

Mr. Anonymous, 20 hours agoDoesn't need to be another OS, just an alternative Pla... moreThat would not be remotely sufficient. Imagine lacking maps, Gmail, google drive, google fit, or find device. There is also a good chance that they would have to go without western hardware like SoCs.

They already have their app stores figured out so all that they would need to do is include their app markets on global devices and market them to western developers. An email app would be very easy to develop, as would a messaging application and a fitness app. Google drive is replaceable, but it could be costly to offer a reasonable amount of space bundled with it. Find device would take some R&D but is absolutely manageable. The biggest issue would be making a decent maplication.
