You don't get charged for online play and you get a gaming device that's cheaper than a gpu and with nearly zero maintenance that pc devices require.

Those USA import duties are not applicable anywhere outside USA. So pure greed is the reason. Import duties are just a convenient excuse.
And surely not applicable on games.

Something about the CEOs of a certain common denominator that take MegaCorp type companies with decades of legacy and just ruin them for short term profits all too willingly.
I'm not really sure what the common denominator is but there's just something common in Microsoft, Google, Adobe, etc. that I cannot just put my finger on...

We need to stop buying new consoles and new games. Xbox, PS, Nintendo and PC. The entire gaming industry has become a hot mess: anti-consumer, greedy, and yet little innovation. We have to cause a gaming crash like '83 and '96. It is the only way to save the future of gaming.

potato4k, 19 hours agoYeah, PC gaming seems to be the inevitable better way these... morePC gaming, even on portables, is still a lot of work for most people. The portables solve the stuck -at-home issue of desktops but it's just another device to carry. Most people are more than content with mobile gaming and the geek-ier ones go all the way to run Winlator.
Steam Deck hype quickly died down in our local groups after the buyers found out Steam games aren't free. And that they need additional tweaking just to run the games if their Deck doesn't run Windows.

potato4k, 19 hours agoYeah, PC gaming seems to be the inevitable better way these... moreThe PS5, the Xbox Series X, and the Nintendo Switch 2 support backward compatibility. You can play games on both consoles and PC, by the way. There is no need to restrict yourself. If you have a PS5, it doesn't prevent you from playing games on your PC.

Againben, 22 hours agoI grew up on consoles, I took a leap of faith a while back ... moreYeah, PC gaming seems to be the inevitable better way these days.
I was a PC gamer, but went to console because console games were not available on PCs. But now, when most console game developers are porting their games to PCs, and the ever increasing prices and devs trying to make you re-buy your old games instead of providing backward compatibility, I'm considering going back to PC. And the good thing is, now we are at the age where a portable PC gaming device is a possibility.

This is simply opportunistic.
The tariff is for goods entering the US. Why is it then the price increase is applied worldwide? Pure money grab. Microsoft is just grasping at straws because nobody's buying the Xbox anymore.

Crackling Doom, 04 May 2025Microsoft, once again, following the footsteps of others. U... moreMicrosoft has never been the leader in gaming. It lost in competition every time. The Xbox was outsold by the PS2. The Xbox 360 was outsold by the Wii. The Xbox One was outsold by the PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The Xbox Series X/S were outsold by the PS5. Microsoft will be fine, though, and now it's a third-party developers with its own consoles.
