Apple to bring back battery case for iPhone 17 Air

You got to love this. First you try to make a uselessly thin phone with everything cramped tightly inside (making it an even greater nightmare or impossible to repair it) to then offer a cover case with extra battery in it to make it even thicker than a regular one. So foolish. But OK, lets wait and see how well (or bad) the battery performance will be before making fun of it. I know, I know, some will love it and it's not good to bash on things but I couldn't resist in this case given the contradiction (thin versus thick).

Apple.. Please dont increase the Battery size or dont adopt Silicon-Carbon battery tech. Just launch a power bank. Thats more convenient..!!!!!
P.S.- STUPID

DarlingYext, 05 May 2025"Doesn't that kinda... you know... defeats the pu... moreeven worse, what's even more breaking is how it handles. bigger and thinner means it'll prone to breaking in half. bendgate again.
make thicc and narrow phones great again.

so that mean 17 air battery last only few hours, that's why you need to use thick case with a battery. LOL

Apple's "unnovation": remove features/parts from their products to sell them separate for a premium.

.alpha, 05 May 2025Apple refuses to put bigger battery into its phones because... moreYou might have a point. Apple seems to tightly measure their chosen battery capacity just to barely reach slightly above 80% capacity after 2 years (where their warranty claim ends).
In fact, Apple even did cut corners by using inferior cells that didn't have as much charge cycle capacity. Forgot which iPhone they did this, but it was well reported.
Have a feeling this is a consequence of Apple requiring the genius support division to actually turn a profit.

yungfishstick, 05 May 2025Thin phone absolutely does not mean bad battery life anymor... moreBut wasn't it a prototype with bad SoC and cameras which leads to less produced heat and so to smaller required cooling what all in all saves space which helps growing the battery capacity?

potato4k, 05 May 2025Actually, if they can put 4000mAh into this thing, that... moreI bet this thing won't get more than a 3200 mAh cell.

might as well produce a phone without any battery for extreme thinness and small size, and then slap an external battery case
just like what Richard Mille did in pursuit for thinnest automatic watch

Step 1: Make phone thinner, making battery smaller in the process.
Step 2: Introduce Battery cases at inflated prices. (This will make the phone fat again, but who will care? Not their customers with 20 IQ anyway)
Step 3: Customers start orgasming: "Wow That's so cool...!!! Take my money, already...!!!"
Step 4: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Step 5: Apply same strategy of 'Artificial Scarcity' in your next "innovation".

This SKU seems a bit redundant with magsafe battery packs, unless magsafe is omitted like on the 16e

yungfishstick, 05 May 2025Thin phone absolutely does not mean bad battery life anymor... moreHighly unlikely to include silicon battery t3ch given Apple's track record of only adopting technology they didn't develop only well it is well matured.

notafanboy, 05 May 2025Certain companies are literally going backwards lmao I reme... moreThin phone absolutely does not mean bad battery life anymore. Thin phone means bad battery life for Apple and Samsung because they're choosing to stick with traditional Li-ion batteries and not Si/C ones. Tecno managed to fit a 5200mAh Si/C battery in a 5.75mm body and other Chinese OEMs are currently packing more mAh per mm than phones from the likes of Apple, Samsung, Google and Motorola. I don't think we should be cheering for thicker and thicker phones. Modern flagships are already fairly heavy and bulky as it is and my S23U feels like a blunt weapon in my hand without a case, moreso with a case on it.
