[deleted post]Sony mobiles are the best and durable. They provide better hardware and the only thing they need to improve is in software. They lost marketing in other countries just because of slow software update or nil update.

I loved their UI in Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray/ Neo/ Neo V and many more. Hope they come back again in my country as Samsung has no competitors and moreover Samsung was behind Sony in those days and even now.

Samsung surviving just because there are no competitors.

Anonymous, 07 May 2025The 5 series is not coming back, dude. 5 V will be the last... morebiggest revenue driver being a horrendous phone hah nice

well there goes any respect/hope i had for Sony then.

If it has the exact specs as the predecessor, then why making a new phone? I love Sony, and I love Japanese brands, but something is not all right with Sony. They should upgrade the main sensor to a bigger one close to 1 inch, and upgrade the telephoto lens to 48 MP resolution. The screen size could also grow a little bit bigger in my opinion.

[deleted post]We already heard this sentence since Xperia X10 in 2008 and it still ain't happening. Next!

jiyen235, 07 May 2025idc about this horrendous phone, im just wondering how, if ... moreThe 5 series is not coming back, dude. 5 V will be the last of its kind. Sorry, not sorry, the Xperia 1 series is the modern post-2019 Sony Xperia's biggest revenue driver, like it or not. Rumours said the Xperia 10 series will be leveled up, and that series will replace the gap of the 5 series for good. Yes, you heard that right. The 10 series will fill the gap, and even that, it won't be equipped with Snapdragon 8 series at all. Sony, just like others, are not an NGO charity group.

Tann Hauser, 07 May 2025Android became a burden with it's app approach nowaday... morewith these powerful soc now they need these update keeps coming to slow down your phone sooner so buy new one and a higher tier one too until you broke to ground.

idc about this horrendous phone, im just wondering how, if they ever do make a successor, will they improve upon the excellent 5 V?

Sony is either incredibly incompetent or grossly greedy, i dont see any other reason why they're taking this new direction since the 1 VI when they simple could've switched gear to stuff like the 5 V. A phone that was priced well enough, took nice shots, had a microsd card slot, front facing speakers AND a headphone jack. Immense potential, wasted due to greed.

I'm not really sad about Sony's 1 series being worse im just sad that they're going to let the golden goose they had in the 5 series, go to waste.

Ottonis, 07 May 2025Humans do indeed have a tendency to attribute human-like pr... moreI understand what are you implying and what you explain there to me. I appreciate it a lot. It's just in the current state of smartphone industry where the essential being taken away and the redundancy being added way too much, and it sacrifices those customers who needed something in the first place. (Example: iPhone's home button being retired after SE3 is gone. Those who hate bezels cheered, but those who needed home button over all-screen estate and gesture nav., will be having hard time finding perfect replacement.)

I'm not saying these companies are innocent. No, far from it. I could listed what Sony did wrong, outside Xperia and Xperia themselves (XZ1's screen and OS controversy, XZ3 copycat controversy, early Xperia Z water resistant marketing), but also the "rebels" companies that this community love like Xiaomi or Vivo did wrong (removing variable aperture, HyperOS battery optimization, X200's removal of 1-incher sensor, etc.) . It's just sometimes when I present our perspectives, I got attacked far too more by them than they did inversely to me. It's not fair, frustrating, and tiring, but I could see the rationale and behind-the-curtain. Still, what we supposed to do? Do the same thing as some billionaires who didn't use any smartphone at all and instead use old-school telephone line like Warren Buffett who used non-smartphone flip phone (not foldable)?

That's also why I said, Apple is a haven company for those who got tired attacked by the Android community, because their fighting over options from outside is minimal. The same goes to Stan Twitter, outside Swifties, others are arguing which artists are better and downplaying them every day every time non-stop, while the Swifties mostly arguing which Taylor songs are preferred, and unbothered to bother other fandoms.

Well, that's the day we'll see if it's worth buying. The last one wasn't due to very poor software support and a screen that would make more sense on phones half the price.

TheSnowWinterR7, 07 May 2025Well, thanks for the both "praise" and "sarc... moreHumans do indeed have a tendency to attribute human-like properties to objects, and to get into some sort of relationship with those objects as if thee were human beings.. That's why we more often than not tend to "love" a specific brand or why we feel "loyal" to a company.
After all, none of these companies is your friend. They all want to make and sell things and earn money.

Witold, 07 May 2025Greatest Sony's fanboi in action. Praise your beloved ... moreWell, thanks for the both "praise" and "sarcasm", I guess

But to be truthful, I don't hate any other brands. I appreciate what they are doing such as the ZTE Nubia Z70 Ultra, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, Oppo Find X8 Ultra or Vivo X200 Ultra. They're, just, not my cup of tea at all due to lack of features I needed (emphasis the need). If the GSMArena users here loved those products more than Xperia that I prefer, I don't mind at all. I let them whatever I want.

The problem arose when in this community in this site tried to downplay those who wants Sony Xperia because a feature they needed yet being mocked, and it happened since Z3+ era, and continues until now. The analogy is like how some people forced those who loved or inside the target market of Porsche 911 because of their manual transmission and last holder of the F6-engine to abandoned Porsche option and forced to purchase Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, when it's not their market at all.

IDC if this community resorted here love the Chinese brands or at least outside Xperia, it's their option and opinion. It's just frustrating they had to intervene the other options for many possible. No wonder, even during this hardship time during Liberation Day Trade Wars, why Apple is being and still sought after as a safe haven option for many smaller Android users who were being intimated by bigger Android fans.

Tann Hauser, 07 May 2025For me, it's the screen puncholes. I just can't..... moreTruthfully, I always opted for 1 series than 5 or 10 series, but I do see what the market caters for each series for. It's such a shame 5 series had to be retired, but 1 III hatred and 5 III being beloved case from 4 years may bother Sony so much, they nerved the 5 series to ensure 1 series is being saved. 10 series could be levelled up based on the current rumours with the reintroduction of camera button (I know, not reliable rumour as Xperia goes, but I do see why they wanna filled the gap the 5-series left).

Anonymous, 07 May 2025I never listened to 200 GB of audio or video in one sitting... moreI would rather abandon any smartphone completely and move to purchase a full-fledged Sony Alpha 1 II than I had to resort to a smartphone, but the feature I needed is gone. At least the Sony Alpha 1 interface and Xperia Pro-mode camera feature are interchangeable.

It is said that Sony might not sell this Xperia 1 VII in Europe because from June, mobiles will have to have at least 5 updates. But countries like Great Britain and Switzerland are not part of it. And then the EU had also requested interoperability between messaging services (for example WhatsApp and Messenger) since 2024, it is still not functional. So a bit of a poor excuse. How will they see this? In 2029 by testing the 1 VII (one more bad joke from this Europe beside the point)

kevinmcmurtrie, 07 May 2025The mircroSD slot is long dead because Google crippled it y... moreThen my option is to completely abandoned Android for good and move to Apple for good as well if MicroSDXC ceased to exist in the future, because it's sad state in the smartphone industry, or even use HMD feature phone if Apple not satisfying me as well, and my option dwindling far too fast. At least Apple never had any form of MicroSDXC in their iPhone since OG iPhone, so I can understand.

Anonymous, 07 May 2025Honestly, the fanaticism over the SD card slot is baffling.... moreDude, I was in Europe, especially Germany, last year for 6 months for student exchange purposes and I brought Xperia 1 II (8/256, HK version) there to take photos and videos for memories and moments. Then I also gifted an iPhone 13 Pro Max from a friend (6/128, Indonesian Version) when I was there. 6 months, 10 countries, many photos and videos taken, both my iPhone and Xperia built-in storage was already full AF, especially 17 GB reserved for The Eras Tour concert in the city of München. My iPhone 13 PM after was full, unable to get more pictures/videos unless I resort to Instagram to take direct documentation there and published there instantly. However, because I inserted my Xperia 1 II with 128 GB MicroSDXC, my Xperia could take more documentation than my iPhone 13 PM until I able to go back home and start backup.

MicroSDXC for you may be not useful for you and you can argued whatever you want, but in my case, it was a lifesaver and saving grace feature, especially I had to argue with my parents to get an 200 GB iCloud for my iPhone 13 Pro Max as it almost brink of collapse of crashing because iPhone since 2007 doesn't have any form of hardware expandable storage, unlike the others who had option but took it away. And Apple is probably the only company that I allowed myself to purchase their cloud storage expansion because they never had a MicroSDXC slot in the first place, unlike Samsung or Xiaomi. Had my Sony Xperia doesn't have any form of expandable storage, and my Xperia 1 II could crash.

If they don't launch in EU till July they will need to follow the new EU regulations from June of 5 years software support. So that would be good news. Unless that's a reason for them not to launch in Europe?!
