Anonymous, 07 May 2025I never listened to 200 GB of audio or video in one sitting... moreWell, SD card is not a must, but definitly a plus option to have on a phone.
Me myself, just like you, maybe doesn't need it that too much, as some 256 gb internal would be sufficient for all my needs.
But people have different needs. Some people listen to flac files only, use their phone as personal portable media center, etc.,so storage flexibility via SD card is crucial to them.
In my case scenario, it is very convenient when switching to a new phone, or for media managment via PC, just store all media and send app data to SDcard, put in new phone/Pc hub, done. Much more convenient than any usb transfer hustle.

And, in fact, I do keep an SSD in my bag. (Mind you, having the Zenfone meant adapting to no longer having an SD card.) I also didn't enjoy taking the case off and still needing an SD adapter to fit my computer's full-sized slot. So... nah, I don't miss SD at all.

Anonymous, 07 May 2025Honestly, the fanaticism over the SD card slot is baffling.... moreDo you carried a miniaturized USB-C SSD with your phone everywhere? Onboard storage is never enough to store all the media you have accumulated over the years and will continue to accumulate. Cloud services are much slower than an SD card and cannot be accessed in places with no reception.

TheSnowWinterR7, 07 May 2025I'm wondering what this site's users who hated So... moreHonestly, the fanaticism over the SD card slot is baffling. Miniaturized USB-C SSDs, spacious onboard storage, and cloud services essentially eliminate the need for internal removable storage. I'm sure you could do a lot with the space savings by not installing a SD slot and controller and waterproofing gasket, etc.
I totally get and approve of headphone jack fanboy-ism or maybe even a 3K-or-finer screen, but not purchasing phones because they lack SD storage? I just don't get it.
Then again, I can't do a phone without telephoto. (I had the telephoto-less Xperia; it called itself Zenfone.) If they made the Xperia 5 with two cameras and one was telephoto instead of ultrawide, I'd buy in a heartbeat.

And 1 is too big for my taste.
Shame they messed up the 5.
Hoping for 10 to be good, and this time include the shutter button.

TheSnowWinterR7, 07 May 2025I'm wondering what this site's users who hated So... moreThe mircroSD slot is long dead because Google crippled it years ago. Play Store apps are required to access it with the Storage Access Framework (SAF) that's about as fast as an old CD-ROM. It's hard to find direct download apps that can use it via FUSE, which also isn't great but is at least usable. I don't think there's any phone maker remaining with a SAF bypass these days.
The workaround is phones with a 1 TB onboard option.

TheSnowWinterR7, 07 May 2025Where are you, Sony Xperia haters? Come lash out your inner... moreI'm wondering what this site's users who hated Sony with a burning passion do their best to persuade me to move from Sony, gonna recommend :) These are my three most absolute required features to have in as my daily gadget that is released this year outside Sony Xperia (MicroSDXC expandable storage [3.5mm jack also great if they found one], stereo speakers, and a complete triple camera of UW-Main-Tele). The ONLY device that is completely close to 1 VII from what I described is the Motorola Edge 60 non-Pro. The others I don't consider at all because of the lack of MicroSDXC slot.

FS72 is definitely for the HK/Taiwan Market.

As usual there are a lot of rumors unfortunately the one that says it would not be sold in Europe you still haven't denied. I really want to continue as I have for years with Sony Xperia! Of course we can do a parallel import but there are always risks of languages, of network. Maybe not in the European Union because of Ridiculous rules but in countries like the United Kingdom or Switzerland?

punmeisterone, 07 May 2025My only problem with the 1 lineup is the launch. Doing a gl... moreSony Xperia is already a small company division since 2019, they are pretty much keeping Xperia as patent-keeping and model-testing for their other division, and yes it is includes PlayStation because connectivity technology in PS has to be tested in Xperia, without Xperia presence, PlayStation price could rise again due outsourcing to other. Plus, and they had to fight with bigger smartphone brands to get the allocation of Snapdragon 8 Elite, of course, Sony stands no chance to get it before 2025 and releasing as soon as the Chinese companies released them in Christmas Season 2024/New Year Season 2025. Maybe around MWC should be good like they did before 2020, though it presents another problem for Sony. This problem persists since COVID-19 pandemic disruption in logistics, supply chain, and with the Snapdragon 888 launches when it launched earlier in Q4 than their predecessors (Snapdragon 865 was the last one that launched in Q1).
Because Sony used to launch their Xperia flagship in February during MWC, but they always launched for sales in May/June or 3 months after the unveiled. They fixed this problem in Xperia Pro-I, 1 IV, 1 V, and 1 VI, where those devices were unveiled and put in sales under 2 months (1 VI is the fastest Sony ever been, under 1 month). I think it had to with the manufacturing processes and refinement behind the scenes. I do think bringing back to MWC-era could be good, albeit if they able to resolved the behind-the-scenes problems (both supply chain allocations prioritization and optimization).

TheSnowWinterR7, 07 May 2025Where are you, Sony Xperia haters? Come lash out your inner... moreMy only problem with the 1 lineup is the launch. Doing a global release in July is just so stupid, as it's right after ALL OEMs such as Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, Vivo etc launched their devices and people bought them for their upgrades. Not to mention their prices are now much lower given that they depreciated in value, so it will be rough for Sony to justify the inevitable 1499 euro MSRP when its competitors such as the Samsung S25 Ultra, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, OnePlus 13 and the like are far cheaper given that they have been for some time on the market.
So it's another missed opportunity by Sony, even through this phone is shaping up to be quite great. Ah and I actually hope they bring the Red and Purple colors globally as they look so sharp.
