Apple Watch shipments declined for second year in a row

07 May 2025
The lack of a new SE model and the iterative upgrades to the Series 10 generation were the biggest contributing factors.

Nameless, 08 May 2025The problem with these watches (Apple, Samsung) you have to... moreand apple watches other than the horrible battery must also be used alongside a horrible phone(except for the pro max series)

This is literally due to a few factors. Nobody is upgrading their smartwatch every 1-3 years. Not many people need smartwatches. Their smartphone can already do most of it, besides ECG and other functions

The problem with these watches (Apple, Samsung) you have to charge them everyday, along with your phone. I had once samsung watch and this routine was horrible. Curently I wear Garmin Instict 2 which gives me 28 days on a single charge. And I don't have to turn on screen to see the time. I'd never ever even consider Apple or Samsung watch.

Counterpoint is correct. Apple should have launched a new SE model based on Series 7 design last year and Series 10 was a huge let down for the anniversary edition. They were greedy and lazy so that's the price they have to pay now.

The current "why is nobody buying it" line-up:
SE based on Series 4 design from 2018 (7 years old)
Series 10 fresh design at least
Ultra 2 essentially identical to Ultra 1 from 2022 (900$ watch based on 3 year old tech)

I wear two smart watches on a daily basis. Garmin Forerunner and an Apple Watch Series 7. What the Apple watch does great is being a smartwatch. Great app integration, functionality, etc... but the Garmin is significantly better for GPS workouts by far. I've used Garmin for my workouts for the past 20+ years and Garmin itself has evolved by leaps and bounds.

The Apple Watch gives me temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, sunrise/sundown, battery life, and forecast for the next few hours - all on my main screen so I can get that info at a glance along with time and date.

An analog watch just tells me time and maybe the date.

I never find the need to wear a smart watch yet, even after being a gen Z.
I do have 1 digital and 1 analog watch, which i wear during special occassions.
In daily life i don't wear watches.
A phone serves my need of watch actually.

I think this is more whoever wants an Apple Watch already got one, so it's just a cycle of older watch users upgrading. And there's no need to upgrade the watch yearly, or even every 2 to 3 years. I think starting with the S5 or S6, the SoC is pretty much the same. And the OS is fairly mature. Nothing much else one could think of that it needs.

They are easily the best thing Apple makes

3m Mahboub, 07 May 2025I don't see the appeal of smart watch I've neve... moreDepends on what type of watch you get.

Some are just designed to track your health essentially (like heart rate, steps/calories burnt/sleep) so last a week or more. Usually can still take calls n messages (usually have loud speakers n mics even on cheap watches).

You then get smartwatches, these are essentially just tiny phones on your wrist. They usually do everything trackers do but can have apps installed on them. Can be used for contactless payments and if you miss place your phone, can usually track that (not sure if the phones needs an uwb chip, possibly does). Some have SIM support too. These usually have to be charged every other day sort of thing.

Because Apple watch 5-10 is same nothing new.

I don't see the appeal of smart watch
                                    I've never considered buying one

People will be keeping their watch longer that's why.

Don't think most people can afford a new £400+ watch every year (and let's be honest, apple watches are all-round some of the best watches that'll last years).

If apple were a struggling company with a tiny percentage of the market I'd be worried, they are like top 5 wealthiest companies going (would make it in the top 20 richest countries if my memory serves me right, trillions they are valued/and have, most countries including USA are in billions/trillions of dollars of debt.

Yeah I mean, who even needs upgrading in their smartwatches per year...?

It's not like they can't do normal smartwatch things after 2 years of usage...
