    another issue is the carrier..

through Du (which is dubai based carrier), you only see them display iphone/HTC one/samsung S4 and BB (BB is dying fast though)...

those carriers play a huge role in shifting phones as they are becoming more inline with their american counterparts who offer deals for phones. so if you are not on a popular carrier the chances are you may not sell well if you only depend on retail shops.

these articles are missleading as wher enokia like ot be is in high end markets like ours although smaller populations but with great purchasing power.
nokia are becoming cheap like samsung by trying direct attacks against iphones in their ads.

shall we even call it nokia anymore after the acquisition by MS?

I can barely see high end Lumia phones here in Saudi Arabia.

Where's the promised Nokia Lumia 1020?

Anonymous, 15 Sep 2013Thats not for smartphones but total. Nokia always been big ... moreCan you name a few brands for me to check out? I'm expecting Chinese Androids to do the same soon, looking at them last year and this year they are really progressing at a fast rate. As for S40 I guess it's their reputation, support for themes and at least some kind of app store. Microsoft says that more than 400 S40 developers have crossed the one million download mark.

Nokia always been big in Russia, the smartphone penetration is not yet so high there. For some reason Russians hasnt yet discovered how much better Chinese feature phones are for a lower price, and that has enabled Nokia to maintain its position in Russia, unlike in SE Asia and so on where Nokia feature phone sales has been devastated by the cheaper Chinamade phones, pay less and get more. I have bought a few newer model China phones myself just for fun, they are really so good now.

This happened during its launch. Of course me too have not seen it as much Samsung and iphones. May be Nokia office or a dealer can disclose its sales figures. But I AM SURE THERE ARE QUITE IN NUMBERS. And you see it will have future and than iphones and Samsung ... I understand it from the newspaper reports. Believe it or not, I like its smoothness and easy operation.

AnonD-45523, 15 Sep 2013loving this....the fall of APPLE Empire in smartphone market. You think it hurts apple that a few people buy cheap Lumia phones? iPhone does not compete with Lumia 510 and 520. Also keep in mind that WP7 is still selling well in the regions where WP has increased its market share. We often think of high end Lumias like 920 925 1020 when we hear about WP and we never give a thought to old WP7 devices but the reality is that cheap old WP7 devices are selling very well some places. Its quite surprising that anyone can buy that old crap but then i think of iPhone 4, its also selling very well, and then we are talking about a seriously outdated weak device.

WP seem to be most popular in low cost countries where income is below average, and its the cheap Lumia models that are popular. In latin america even the old wp7 models sell well. Bottom line, these are not buyers that go for the latest and greatest, Lumia 925 and 1020 is NOT what these smartphone users are buying
