You must be getting this super pocket phone confused with something else. This is exactly what I have been waiting for. A small slider phone that has a best-in-class 5 MP camera for when I don't have my DSLR with me. Also a super MP3 player to use with my stereo BT headset. And finally Motorola's latest creation in telephone audio quality: Crystal Talk II which has a second microphone dedicated to detection and removal of background noise.
I don't want a monster touch screen, I want something small. I don't want 3G, I use a simple basic mobile plan. Wi-fi is a bonus for the coffee shop and bar.

jjsoviet, 24 Nov 2008Wow, funny how stuff goes in the Philippines is the exact o... moreI am a Filipino too and Amen to that! It is just too bad few of us really appreciates motorola. I myself owned a lot of phone and most of them by moto.
I gave my kid sister my L7i and became a convert.
If this phone comes out with 3g here, it will be a contender for the ZN5 but I am no where near in giving up my Rokr E8 or my Rokr Z6.

scandinavian_armor, 24 Nov 2008uhm... as i've said, not all units found in this site(or av... moreWow, funny how stuff goes in the Philippines is the exact opposite in the United States. Being a Filipino myself who went to America a couple of times, it's pretty much accepted that the US patronizes Motorola, Blackberry, etc. while the Philippines is dying to have Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and Samsung mobile phones.
The problem with us Filipinos is our mindset (you're correct about that). Every single Filipino is brainwashed that Nokia, SE and Samsung make the best phones (which is not always the case) and Motorola has garbage phones (which is not entirely true). This influence has been a major factor why a majority of Filipinos look for the latest Nokia phones (yes, even a simple sidewalk vendor owns an N95 8GB in the Philippines) which by the way, are only used for talking and texting (right again, mr. armor).
However, your point also proves that Filipinos are not very smart consumers at all. If what you are saying about them only using their phones for texting is correct, then it means many people are not utilizing their feature-rich phones to their full potential. Smart, Globe, etc. have introduced 3G calling and HSDPA web surfing; however, have you researched on how many people actually used those features? Not a lot. How many people can even define GPS, T9, Carl Zeiss lens, Panoramic Mode, Accelerometer, etc. here? Not a lot.
Motorola may not be famous in the Philippines, but that doesn't stop me from patronizing this underdog of the mobile world. No matter how famous other brands are, I am sure that my lowly Motorola phone still performs well and meets my expectations with simplicity and good performance. I don't need those snazzy features anyways, and most people don't know that they even need one. My E8 will never be replaceable by any NSeries, Cybershot or Walkman series, or even Ultra series of phones.
The VE66 will still be a solid performer, no matter what you say about it. By the way, most Motorola phones nowadays have QVGA screens; my E8 actually beat the XpressMusic 5310 in terms of sharpness and color depth. Want a proof (along with the E8's superior performance over any and every music phone)? Here:
http://www.smape.com/en/reviews/motorola/Motorola_E8-rev.html
"The screen of MOTOROKR E8 is mostly identical with that of MOTO U9 both in terms of dimensions and quality, no perceptible difference from MOTO U9 can be felt. The view angles are mazimized, the screen leaves a purely positive impression, the quality of the Sharp matrix is traditionally high. Nokia 5310, for instance, is slightly inferior in quality: the brightness is lower and the colors appear less natural."
"It wouldn't be too much of an exaggeration to state that E8 is arguably the best music phone on the market now. What gives us grounds for making such statements? The three main factors that really matter for a music phone: usability of the player interface, audio quality and ergonomics of playback controls."
I'm very sure the VE66 can have features on par or better than my E8.

100 Moto, 24 Nov 2008Well, understand the point about texting being more frequen... moreuhm... as i've said, not all units found in this site(or available in your country) are available here. i think only those 'low-end' moto phones with those crappy CSTN screen, some newer ones with big 'WHEEL' designs(which i think is of no appeal to ages 30 and below,w/c comprises 70-90% of the buyers here) are being sold here(esp by the general public).
regarding the USB with USB charging support, (newer)SE USB does too..heh heh.(is it obvious that im an SE fanboy? heck...)sorry about that.but your right, big ol N doesnt support that.
well, maybe not the promotional $, but the mindset of others that N is the best(heh... heh... heh...).
and take note, only about 20%-40% of the cellphone users here uses(or know how to use) those additional accessories aside from the charger and headset. so if they want to get an mp3, games, or applications or video to their phones, they either transfer it via bluetooth from other cellphone, or go to a service technician to to the job.

scandinavian_armor, 24 Nov 2008i think i get what Agung means. like in my country(Philippi... moreWell, understand the point about texting being more frequent in your place, if not some other places, than voice calls.
Though that doesn't mean when people make voice calls, which I do believe they do from time to time, really want to capture all the background noise like those bar phones of I?music brand.
Don't understand about your view regarding Moto phones don't have features like Bluetooth or expandable memory. For examples, the Zn200 and EM330 being sold where I live cost about US$128 unlock without contact. They all come with A2DP Bluetooth standards. 3.5mm plug is also available on EM330, A810, E6, Zn5, etc...(which certain brand, no matter how much you pay, simply CANNOT get the 3.5mm plug)
For some Moto phones (like Zn5, E8) which "offically" support 4GB memory, in reality the phones actually support 8GB.
Most (if not all) Moto phones using mini/micro USB plug also support USB charging, which certain almighty brand only offers for data transfer. Why can't other brands offer such simply and convenient technology into all of their phones?
Regarding the carriers, just from my own speculation, some other brands must have been spending some promotional $ with these carriers to promote their phones, if not for other shops as well.
Moto is just the poor kid at the block with little resources to do things like that. Though I do agree its marketing team might be the worst in the industry.

100 Moto, 24 Nov 2008Can't exactly agree with your statement "Moto handsets are ... morei think i get what Agung means. like in my country(Philippines), where voice call is not as popular as short messaging services(text message), we do not really appreciate Crystal Talk feature since most people prefer sending short messages than calling. and also, one reason i see why moto was not that popular here was that most units available here lacked features like bluetooth, a good display, an expandable memory, a good music player, and the fact that the 3 network carries here mainly 'supports' nokia, SE, then samsung. it was only recently that moto became agressive in their ad campaign here.

Agung from Bali, 23 Nov 2008I have to admit that Moto does good with their design. But ... moreCan't exactly agree with your statement "Moto handsets are not reasonably priced".
Where I live Moto just released the EM330...a flip phone with Crystal Talk and 3.5mm plug (which certain I?music brand still refuses to offer) for about US$128 (unlock and no contract)
Has any other brand offer a "flip" music phone with such features at such price? Certain almighty brand doesn't even know how to make (good) flip phones to begin with.
For Crystal Talk, maybe where you live you don't have trains coming thru with super loud announcement on platform....not so where I live...along with busy streets packed with thousands of people almost 24 hours a day....places like these people really need Crystal Talk.
Once I was at the airport with a friend of mine...who was using the I?music brand's "top of the line" (smart) phone. Yes, its PDA and all other functions outperformed my Moto V9. Though at the chaotic airport with hundreds of delays and thousands of people...I couldn't hear what he said.
Is that what a phone should be? Capturing all the background noise but NOT the conversation?

another appealing design from moto...but what makes moto a boring brand, they're lacking of advanced features...
Better buy NOKIA's or Samsung phones...u can enjoy fast sharing, musics, better COLOR DISPLAY, and better support from the manufacturers wherever u are(example: NOKIA SUPPORT)
another NEWLY RELEASED Late Technology phone from moto...it's like buying a new model from moto with a NOKIA or SAMSUNG 2006 features...

I have to admit that Moto does good with their design. But I will never buy Moto device regarding to their not up to date features and not reasonable price on market. Well, for example...you can come with Linux as your OS, but you are not providing at least wide screen for better view, not a HSDPA or 3G access, or better camera rather than 2MP or even mostly still VGA. Like in my state and county, most of the young people just look for good device for sharing music and pictures, gaming and emailing. You come without most of requested functional and only offer crystal talk...we really don't need it....I hope there is a least a people from Motorola company read this. For Moto fan, don't get mad as I am still a Moto admirer as well

So? Nokia also is in crisis, lose profit and fired many workers. Sony Ericsson is in crisis, struggle, and lose profits.
