Touchscreen Nokia N97 is the next step ahead with full QWERTY

02 Dec, 2008
The Nokia N97 is most definitely one of the most loaded N-series devices out there, but that's not it's all about. The N97 is the first high-end device powered by the latest touchscreen Symbian S60 OS...

Good initiative Nokia ... but its a tad too late! Touchscreen is the hype NOW and not 6 months from today (in Q2). Besides, 5MP is certainly going to be underspec since we should already be seeing 8MP as a norm if not more. If this is going to replace e90, its a good upgrade in form factor and overall spec but Nokia needs to keep the position as the leader of innovation and technology just like when they led the way with N95.

Poor spec and high pricing will deter people from the n97. I'm sure SonyEricsson and Samsung are going to come up with a better spec and upgrades really soon. Watch out this space folks!

They should call this the n-series communicator. This is a true killer. Best in the market. And look at the battery. 1500mah just like the fabulyus e71. Finally. An n-series with a good battery. I wonder how many hour7 of music it can put up. This is the best phone out there.
And for those saying x1, take a look at nokia tablet n810. It came long before the x1.

If you ask me... throw your iPhone away, and dont bother looking at XPERIA anymore... Symbian + Nokia will pwnz you.

The only disappointment is its disturbing similarity with the 5800 XpressMusic, apart from being white. Happy to see a 5MP camera on it. Hopefully it has enough hardware power to make its hi-res screen run smoothly.

This is amazing... first day of news and already 109 comments O_O

This is going to be an interesting competitor to the X1.
Both have there advantages and disadvantages, so it's going to be interesting to see them compared to each other...

              pro N97
              - 5MP camera
              - Accelerometer
              - 32 GB memory

              contra N97
              - bigger
              - heavier
              - not avaiilable for at least half a year (seeing the delays on N96, X1,... lately I wouldn't expect it before Q3 2009)

              What we don't know yet
              - speed
              - battery performance
              - compatibility for 3rd party GPS apps

As for the OS: that's just for personal preferences. There is no better or worse IMHO...

But let's see what the other manufacturers throw at us till this one is out. The X1 blew everyone away when it was announced, but by the time it was released it was still very good but not that outstanding anymore.

Nokia chose to withhold the 8mp for yet another Touch N-series; I can wait, but it has to have xenon with it..Hoping against hope that nokia will combine both in a touch device very soon

It is funny to see how people can get excited about something what they did not even hold in their hands or see it in real life. They read the specs and see the pictures about the phone and announce to everybody that they are going to buy the phone! That is… well not to bright.

Fan boys… I will never understand them. :)

that 5800 xpress music wouldn't last long!
u can tell from it's serial number, "5800" it's not even an N series yet tries to be a multimedia phone...

now u seeee, N97 has been announced! much better version than the first S60 touch screen, the 5800! HAHAHA!
5800 is a cheap version of N97! half the price! LOL!

There joy pad on the left hand side is perfect for game.
But I just wonder why don't nokia release a touch screen version of N95 / N96, should give us a choice of number pad or keyboard.
