Apple is one step ahead of all Windows Mobile sales in Q3

04 Dec, 2008
Well, it's official - Q3 2008 saw Apple's only current smartphone, the iPhone 3G, outsell the numerous devices based on the Windows Mobile platform not only in USA but on worldwide scale. That's some...

Why_IPhone, 05 Dec 2008Hi, I'm sorry if i might offended someone with this post... moreYou forgot Sharp man, i heard that they make great phones there in ASIA. They already have 3.8 1024×800 resolution displays. Apple only dreams of that.

    Fastest web browser ?:))))))))lol.
Can you spell SkyFire ? http://www.skyfire.com/. 2-6 seconds to load a page, 30-46 seconds on Opera and Safari. Full internet content, flash. Iphone only dreams of that because SkyFire is ONLY for Symbian and WinMobile. You only see half of the internet without flash dumbass, a lot of sites use flash, even the porn sites you use on a daily basis.
And who the hell carries a laptop/DSLR camera/video camera/GPS/MP3 Player (can`t have stereo music without it over bluetooth headsets) in his pockets?:))) That`s why real smarthphones have better camera`s and everything, so they can replace a little bit the stand-alone devices when you can`t carry them with you. That is why they are called SMARTphones.
Google Maps has to preload every map, when you don`t have 3G connection or WLAN you are dead. Or when you use it in a car, moving. That`s why there are applications like IGO/Garmin, that have the maps ALREADY installed.
HSPDA is needed for fast internet connection and file transfers.
Can you open a game/a java application/a word document/web browser at the same time?:))) NO => no multitasking.
And Nokia smarthphone`s have the lead in Europe, the article says that it beat Win Mobile globally, NOT Symbian :

Anonymous, 05 Dec 2008My point is. Apple does not make 10 phones a year just to ... moreUnfortunately no.
I've been screaming out loud very strong to nokia about this.
They should be able to push the update to our handset directly.

      On the other hand,
I can go to any nokia center, and ask them to upgrade the firmware for me.
The upgrade only took around 2-3 minutes, and it's free.
And also... Nokia center it's everywhere.

But I chose nokia over iPhone, because apple had made their phone useless for me by locking it to specific provider. I travel outside my country a lot, and I use local phone number when I traveling. I don't want to pay the high cost of global roaming. Therefore.... i don't care how good iphone is, it's just useless for me.

How many N series does it take for Nokia? Even the original iphone is still enjoying firmware updates together with iphone 3g. You do not need a disk to update the iphone. Apple even sends emails and text messages when an update is available and gives you a list of what the update is all about. Does Nokia do that?

          [deleted post]Hi,

I'm sorry if i might offended someone with this post. I know i'm generelazing here. But I think this might be true.

I see that most american like 'bubles'. That's why iPhone a big hit in there. The also don't care if in 2 or 3 years some other company make something better, and they deserted iPhone just because it's coller...

On the other hand, most user in Asia, just smile when they look at the iPhone function. They say... "OMG, it's good". But when they were ask to judge when buying the phone, only a few actually did. Because we (asian) like more function, we care about the function more than the iphone bubble. This is where nokia is a very strong player in this area.

[deleted post]Well you're certainly not smart based on what you are saying, ROTFLMAO.

All phones have limitations, but then there are features that makes more sense than the other, and that is where the iphone excels. What's true is that the iphone is the most wanted phone and you're jealous =)

Guess that shows how you envy Americans and those who patronize American =)

The software is called Nokia Software Updater (NSU)
it's on the CD when you purchase your nokia phone.

Installed it on the computer, and plug in the cable of your nokia
and you can update the phone firmware.
              I did this a couple of time to my N81 & E61i.

                [deleted post]Well...I agree with you...
Can you see the global crisis??? It is started in America and because
of they were spending money tooooo much then they saved money...and Europe Banks gave their money because no people in Europe wants to lend money. This is as an example...why Iphone sold so many in America. They wasted their money for a no functional device such as Iphone....when other people from other part of the world still have brain not to buy it.

jacksonliam, 04 Dec 2008The iphone isnt really a smartphone as far as im concerned.... moreWhen you post a link, why don't you read it and try to understand it, first?

Hmm, what a fool that guy is he must work for Microsoft.

His first point No back button... he doesn't even know that the Email application is on the taskbar at the bottom of every screen (unless you customise and move it somewhere else) sure clicking a link opens it in Safari, when you are done you close Safari, open Email and you are in exactly the same place in the email you were reading, how could he not know this?

wtf??? then he starts babbling on about the iPod, Zune and Windows Media Player what's with that, this is a phone we are talking about here.

Then he starts going on about Windows 7 it looks like there will be only cosmetic changes from Windows 6, Apple changed MacOS entirely with OSX they changed to a Unix based OS, the OS running on the iPhone is substantially the same as the desktop OS.

Then he starts going on about Apples dock on DESKTOP systems, umm I thought this was about the iPhone, oh I see he's p*ssed that Microsoft is copying it with WM7.

So what were you trying to prove by posting that rant which seems to be against Windows Mobile and has hardly any relevance to the iPhone?

When you think about iphone is the best phone out there, everytime a new touchscreen phone comes out what is it compared to. You guessed right the iphone. Also if these cellphone company's would put more focus on one great cellphone then maybe they could come up with something as good as the iphone, but instead they wanna make a bunch of crappy little phones. Iphone changed everything, now every other manufacter wanna imitate the iphone.

I'm NOT an iPhone fan but I will give it's credit where it's due... The iPhone isn't my thing and I've had plenty of touch screen phones, but I played with my friend's iPhone and the touch screen is VERY VERY responsive!! The way you can maneuver the device is rather outstanding but the iPhone's other issues drew me away from it... I will always be a HUGE fan of Symbian OS. I've had Windows Mobile devices and all kinds of touch screen devices and I've always went right back to Symbian!!! Thanks Nokia!!! N97 is on the way!!!

A good OS is nice, but with a short lifetime battery as the Iphone one is totaly useless.
I use smartphone as a professional. No one has got an Apple.

Get a longlife battery to an Iphone... it s turn to a heavy stone.

The choice of an Iphone(3g or not) is a gimmick one.
Winmo offers a better mobile choice( from LG to Samsung), more free softs.

                              Winmo is a profesional choice.

Seriously, I was the biggest nay-sayer of the iPhone before I got mine. Now, all I can say is, the 'basic' features it's missing don't matter at all to me. Anyone who owns an iPhone knows what I'm talking about. There is absolutely NO phone, from ANY company with a touch screen and user interface like this. Completely unrivaled, completely unprecedented. I definitely give a nod to xperia and N97, and I'm a HUGE fan of Symbian, but you must understand, Apple's OSX is revolutionary.

Well, just like what the article said my friend, not everyone is crazy about spec sheets. A lot of consumers give more weight on user experience, simplicity, built, OS and UI. The iphone basically has so many good qualities that outweighs its shortcomings. Apple is working on SMS forwarding, copy/paste & flash support. The best thing about it is. You don't need to buy a new iphone, but get FREE firmware updates, unless of course it's a hardware upgrade like the 3g updgrade, then that is the only time that Apple would make a new phone. Compared to Samsung, Nokia, HTC and SE that for any little changes and upgrades, they release a new model, lol.

This says a lot to all GSM Arena readers. Notice that the iphone does not even get good marks as far as ratings here on GSM Arena is concerned. That's because Samsung, Nokia and SE fanboys join hands in giving the iphone the lowest score multiple times, LOL. Most, not all, iphone consumers don't really bother with that rating. Iphone users also don't bother so much in retaliating with all the bashing of the iphone going on around here from Samsung, SE and Nokia fanboys. That is because we are not insecure with our iphone =) Most of the people here who diss the iphone has not even touched an iphone, lol. Just go to any Apple retail store. You'll see more people in there than the retail store next door that sells SE, Samsung, Nokia, HTC and others altogether. Although, I am really quite excited and interested in the upcoming release of the N97. I like the demos so far and I am highly considering it. I'm just skeptical of its built quality though.

He sends messages, he can make phone call's, great simple email function.
