They don't have a tester to test these things, so passing it on to the developers to find and post bugs. Another Cost Cutting technique

is it me or people here don't know how much a phone like this is worth? just to make things clear, the iphone is 1000 dollars unlocked (i know you can get it for a bit less), the htc touch diamond is around 500 unlocked, the n96 is around 600 (the n97 is going to be around 700 when it comes out so don't dream about it being 400 dollars).
this phone is great at 400 completely unlocked. you can load any build of the android os present and future, as long as the hardware is compatible, i think it's a great deal FOR DEVELOPERS.

I have had this phone but iphone is still better, g1 is too big and is not nearly as sleek as most users would like.

Looks like XDA developers are going to love this! I see Android on many other HTC phones in the near future after people dump the ROM off of this.

                        g1 is a good phone i'll give it that, but $399... -_-
might as well gets a n97 which is more impressive and newer tech for about the same price...anyway its still got some big problems with it since android is a new OS

Anonymous, 08 Dec 2008So... is there not a camera on this version? It doesn't loo... moreThe phone is SIM unlocked, is bootloader unlocked, and has root access. Its for developers so they can develope programs for it. And yes it DOES have a camera its exactly like the G1 from Tmobile.

no offense to google or anything i use your search engine like everyday but #399 ain't too catchy even if its for developers an all but i just wanna say that i think you guys did a pretty poor job with Android when i first heard google where coming in the game i really had high hopes but the G1 don look good nor does the OS, look at Symbian S60 5th... can't wait to try it out alot of general excitement is going around not like Android which is pretty ugly right now, later homies

HAAAA!!!!!!! After all that and it STILL can not record video. Good one Google. I'll spend my $399 on something that's actually worth it like the N97.

So... is there not a camera on this version? It doesn't look that way. Let's say you were a legitimate developer working on a camera ap. Stupid move Google/HTC. It's probably best to wait for the even cheaper Kogan Agora which will be sim unlocked and looks less bulky anyway. Only a matter of time before all Android devices can load whatever build of the OS they want (maybe real soon if coders can take Google's new tools for this device and reverse engineer them).

The fact that G1 is on T-mobile in USA is one of my main deterents in purchasing this phone (besides the fact that I am a symbian/nokia fanboy

Would be cool to use this phone on At&t's 3g network (which t-mobile is severely lacking in coverage btw...)

Looks like Google intention is to draw all Symbian app developers over...
If this happens, we will paying again to buy what we bought for our Symbian phones. Any seconder?
