Samsung Galaxy S5 will not have OIS camera

28 November, 2013
Apparently the next Galaxy S flagship will miss out on OIS, just like the Galaxy Note 3.

So why does Google keep saying that they have fixed "the lag" with every new Android release?

Did you have KitKat on your first Galaxy S phone?

You're not kidding anyone, everyone knows about Android lag, it's inherent to the way Android works, a pseudo JVM sitting on top of a Linux core introduces lag affecting real time processes hooking into the hardware.

We also tested the video stabilization of the iPhone - it's a software stabilization, there are no special hardware components. We pitted it against the HTC One which has actual optical image stabilization, but the iPhone 5s video actually looks smoother. The trade-off, as we said, is the narrower field of view on the Apple smartphone, but the result is still mightily impressive.
here the video comparing the two phones

As you can see software, can beat hardware if done properly.... I rest my case :)

Your statement is an exaggeration. Software simulation can beat OIS and OIS can beat software simulation, it depends on the implementation checkout Adobe Photoshop sharpening filters http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/reduce-camera-shake-induced-blurring.html

Now imagine if the phone is accurately recording the position of the phone in 3d during the capture of an image. Imagine further that it actually captures multiple images as well and uses software to adjust the image based on these factors you could often beat a basic 2d OIS and potentially beat a 3d OIS.

That being said if you could combine these techniques with OIS then you would potentially have even better results...

Technically though software could take geo location and then use other photos say from Facebook of the subjects involved and the location and generate a photo based on much more information than the camera actually captures... software can in essence beat the best OIS always given enough time and processing power...

However I do hope that OIS is included in the S5 as in practical terms 3D OIS is likely to be superior to software all else being equal.

FYI, the OIS is one of the most useful things in a digital camera. Of course, it is useful only in some situation. But when it is, no software simulation can be as effective as an OIS.
Now you may say: I don't care, I love Samsung whatever they do, and I will buy the S5 even without OIS. And this is ok. But trying to convince the others (or yourself… ) that the OIS is not so useful… well… no! ;)

OIS isn't really needed, the iPhone 5s does a superb good job stabilizing the image with software to the point it's actually better than some that have hardware OIS.

Is Samsung do decide to leave out OIS in the S5 & Note 4, then they really need to learn how to improve it software when it comes to stabilizing images, among other things aswell like touchwiz.
