After the N79 Active here comes the N79 Eco. What’s next?

16 Jan, 2009
The nice looking Petrol Black version of Nokia N79 appeared today on the Nokia UK store web page. It's available in a so-called Nokia N79 Eco pack. What makes it “Eco” is the lack of a charger. While that sounds...

Slick, 17 Jan 2009DJ homie thats slick!, must have partied hard man... sadly ... moreOh...! BTW the Middle East is highly religeous. And well, you should try different brands (OS's), buying those new Samsungs will be the same as buying onother Nokia cause they run on Symbian S60. Try WinMo(preferably HTC), webOS, RIM, Apple, LG, SE, even the much hated Motorola for a change. I've played around with a demo iPhone in a Vodacom shop(Vodafone South Africa), my friend's BlackBerry, my two coleagues' HTC and SE P1i, my friend's N81(I really liked that one), the Moto V8 and the Q9h, so every one of them had something unique and interesting to me.
C u around homies!

The question is not that some people are concerned about the planet and then sip coffee at starbucks.... The question is that a company is trying to do something about it ! Chaps like you love to comment but when it comes to doing....well poooooof !

Anonymous, 17 Jan 2009This is very true... I've got a couple of Samsungs at home,... moreCall me naive, how many of the almighty brand phones support USB charging?

Ever since Motorola released its V3/E680 YEARS ago, all of its mid/high end phones support USB charging (last year moving down to low end phones)...

I actually agree if the phone supports USB charging, phones can simply come with the USB cable instead of the whole charger as an "option".

The "without" charger version should either cost less to the consumer or put the $ into real environment saving measures...

Bac0n, 16 Jan 2009Quite a shrewd move, saving a shed load not making chargers... moreThink about which company has been releasing so called "new" phone almost every week...by putting more or less features from older models and make them as "new"....

To users of 11xx series, they probably care little or less if they're 1100 or 1108 or whatever "upgrade" version...they would probably be as happy to have the "good old" 1100...if not even 8210/8250/8310.

Why certain company decided to keep releasing hundreds of "new" models, with different instruction manuals, boxes, packaging materials, etc...is that their definition for being "eco friendly"?

Moshel, 16 Jan 2009so what happens if u have to sell your old phone? u tell th... moreDoesn't that imply the almighty brand is now focuing only on its "existing" customers where "new" customers are NOT welcomed!?

Really odd business / marketing strategy indeed...

Moshel, 16 Jan 2009so what happens if u have to sell your old phone? u tell th... moreActually that depends on different market, in HK for some reasons those "hawkers" on the streets buying 2nd hand phones don't seem to like chargers or accessories...unless they're extremely new. Even if you beg them to pay a few (US) dollars more for taking in the charger, they simply won't do it.

Anonymous, 17 Jan 2009google SNAKE & SPACE IMPACT from NOKIA almost whole mobi... moreAh, yes I remember some bimbo at work showing me Snake on her new 5110, I just showed her how I could copy my phonebook from my SIM to my Ericsson GH688 and how the call timer displayed on the screen by itself when you were on a call.

So Nokia started the toys for kid's type phone's.

It's good to see where their priorities lay.

Other phones just want to add features of their competitors and stay on the game, doesnt matter for them if the quality is bad.
Just look the whole world today, competition has only made peoples life more difficult, yet we cannot do anything about it.

While, they cut down on packing and shipping stuff, it also saves money for Nokia which is more money for them. I'm sorry to say that IMHO there is harldy anyone out there who truly cares for the nature anymore. Someday, not far away, its gonna bite us back real hard.
One other thing, I'm a big fan of Nokia phones, been using them for more than 8 years.

one way nokia can help ecologically is to become smarter in designing phones. reduce the number of models, come up with models that will meet the needs/requirements of its customers and make them sturdier so that the need for changing units become less. that of course would run counter to nokias thrust of earning loads of money by getting mobile phone users to buy new models regularly.

this is nice ..... it would be even better if all the producers of mobile phones in the world would use the same charger and data cable (not to forget memory card). also all mobile phones should be made out of recycled plastic and metal .... that would really mean "eco"
