Great phone, but the overall quality of the device (plastic casing that is soft, the way you are opening the device in order to get to the keyboard, which can break/malfunction over time) is not so great. I'm a bit surprised, since HTC is actually providing the hw... I had my fair share of HTC devces, and I was unpleasantly surprised on poor craftsmenship of this device. On the other hand the possibilities of Android OS... :) wow

It isn't the best phone made but it's the best open source os capability to duet all of expensive Os solutions for mobile.
The G1 isn't a best to have but it's a good phone. For me it's a solution for geekaholic.... ^^

Phones developed out of the US of A are technologically backwards (not feature rich for example the IPhone still cannot forward messages)???

I would like to see the Android phones coming to South Africa this year so that I'll get my hands on one of them. I like trying something different always. IMO Linux-powered phones have one of the best UI (if not the best), the G1, the new Palm Pre, and the E-Series and A-Series Motorolas (old and new). Let's wait for the new G2, Motorola, HTC for new Android line-up and even Sony Ericsson will make an Android phone I think.

In Austria it costs €99,- with a 39,- contract for 2 years. It includes a national telephone and sms flat and a free data volume of 1GB.

In the Netherlands this device will be free with a €29.95 contract which includes 300 minutes of calling and 300 texts, it will also include a €14,95 Web 'n Walk Plus Data plan with speeds up to 1Mbit Down and 384Kbit up.
This also allows mobile TV (Via Internet streaming video) the data limit is 2GB after which it gets slowed down to 384Kb/64Kb (Mobile TV is included with the data you use).
It is already available for Pre-Order.
Another thing, the device will be "clean" when you get it here in the Netherlands.
Meaning that you will not get any T-Mobile applications pre-loaded, only the basic Android ones.
The other apps are still available in the Android Market.
Also, you will not get the data plan automatically, you must chose it as an extra. (It's still free though, don't worry)
T-Mobile suggests that you take this plan as the phone is constantly in connection with the internet because of updates, etc.
If you would not do this, your monthly fee will become significantly higher.
Also, I'm not really interested in this phone, though the OS is amazing the phone itself is kinda lacking in hardware, I don't think it's ugly though.

Who cares about the G1? There are many Android phones coming out soon. This half-baked Android phone is so 2008. It would be stupid to get this and not wait for the next wave of Android phones, which I am sure is just around the corner.

It comes for free with a 2 year T-Mobile € 29,95 a month priceplan in the Netherlands. T-Mobile includes a € 14,95 a month 1 MBps Mobile internet subscription for free!
