If I want to tether my Nexus 7 to my phone to use a bigger screen I shouldn't be penalized. It's the same data. The carrier doesn't have to do any thing extra. I'm not using any "more" data than my phone would use by itself. It's just another way for the carrier to rip you off.
Biggest scam out there. It's people like you that lets them get away with it.
That's why every phone or tablet I buy "will" be rooted and flashed.

You're commnet makes no sense you've just said that it is the networks that request the phone has a locked bootloader not Sony, but you'll never buy a Sony again?

It's only going to be the carriers who lock down the bootloader, I had the same problem on the Z1 from EE in the UK, so when I bricked my phone by mistake, Instead of sending it back to EE I just sent it to carphone warehouse and got a nice shiny new, black, boxed, unlockable, sim free Z1. But for this reason alone I will never buy from Sony ever again, how dare they tell you what to do with a phone that you've spent so much money on. It's ridiculous.

I own a T-Mobile LG Optimus L9 P769 and has its bootloader locked up very tight at carrier's request. The bad news is the majority of users don't use custom roms so looks like best choices for customization is purchasing the Nexus or new Moto phones.

try reading the startcof the third paragraph.
it became illegal to unlock phones in january.
now wether thats what thevlaws are or what they say is what they are discussing.
if it is'nt already,it will soon become one of the little things not allowed in america along with nasty great big things that will be legal to be done TO you.

congressmen and others are still discussing bringing in draconian laws against phone unlocking,plenty of headlines not long before xmas,will find links for americans who have trouble keeping up with home news,if i rember correctly,yer iffy green bloke who supposedly runs you all even mentioned it in a seech.off to find links.

Why would anybody buy a not unlockable device? For me any artificial limitation is a deal breaker.
People should understand that silently acceptind and buying such monstrum is actually A VOTE! Doing so, you encourage further steps, and the tech world would become more and more restrictive and intrusive. When you buy something, don't be selfish saying "this doesn't matter for me" or "this doesn't affect me" - think for the others too, think BIG in terms of community and future and reject these kind of monstruosities!

you know what guys, im a sony fan and i admit it. i dont have any bad feedback to other manufacturer. it depends on the users preference. Not unlockable bootloader is being requested by the carrier itself not the mobile maftr.i have Xperia ray(still kicking)locked from network/bootloader unlocked allowed=no but if you are gong to buy the mobile outright,(not owned by any carrier), certainly you will have bootloader unlocked allowed=yes..and that will allow you to flash your favorite rom, e.g.(CM7,9,10,11) or MIUI.. oks? peace everybody
