Profits will be down for all tech manufacturers "at least Samsung still made a pretty hefty profit", one reason is that the smartphone market is already pretty much saturated, people stuck on two year contracts, and phones like the S3 that was introduced almost two years ago still do a fantastic job, and last but not least, the economy is still pretty much in the tank.

Samsung's profit is down because of Rising LG

They still have enormous profit and cannot buy more servers in order to seed the upgrades faster. For S3 it took 3 mounts for the 4.3 update. They should learn from Apple for that matter.

And here onwards their profits would further decline in coming quarters, as Apple would take the Advantage.

IMHO the design of their devices is a bit outdated.
Moreover their products aren't ahead of the competition.
I have friends that had a few hardware and software problems with Samsung devices, while competition does cheaper and better products.

If the SGS5 will have any of the wow-factor my current SGS3 had then I'm in for a treat this year. I had little reason to update to the SGS4 although its screen is much better than the one on the SGS3. Also these flagship phones are so expensive, a family man such as myself with three small sons cannot responsibly go out and spend so much money on a phone every year. Nevertheless, if Samsung can pull off something that creates a smoother experience, meaning less lagging, I'm sure they'll rake in groundbreaking operating profits this year. Zero bezel and much better battery life will be adamantly appreciated by the likes of me times millions.
