Wow! I had the i900 Omnia back then, my very first smartphone. Who knew I'd be coming back another stylus-equipped phone from the same manufacturer 5 years into the future (Galaxy Note 2).

My first droid was the Sony Ericsson X10i (rachel)
It had a freaking flash and image stabilazation unlike the first Galaxy S phone.. (flash cmon) sadly the X10 was prone to die when you did a update (rebooting issues)
thats one thing i never liked from Andriod is your risk of updating.. you dont know how bad the update is at first.
i wont go iOS or Windows Mobile caus im so used to ANdroid (1.6 all the way till 4.3) eitherway I like what Sony is doing to their Xperias end of Last year maybe i go back to Sony (im on a Galaxy S4 atm very over featured phoned)

I'm so sad 'bout what's happening to Nokia.
Call me the ultimate Nokia fanboy, I don't care. But I really hate Android for it's very unclassy, unorganized OS.
I will never buy an Android phone. I'd rather go with iOS than that pirated OS.
Sorry, Android fans.

I remember one of the first droids of Samsung, one of the.cheapest droids released that time i5700 1.5cupcake Spica I guess, its a fair.good.phone.on that time though :)

I feel sorry for nokia. I understand that they also want a strong partnership that's why they partnered with windows phone instead. Samsung already had a strong partnership with google before nokia and nokia wants a partnership too. But it is never too late for nokia if they create android. Cause if they do so google will regret partnering with samsung. As we can see, nokia is still the most outstanding company. The PureView camera is one proof. Nokia storyteller, Pro Cam, and other apps by nokia is topnotch I just can't imagine what nokia's best could've done with android instead.

Gees 5 years ago I was using a touch screen with stylus feature phone called the LG Viewty KU990 (3 Mobile version was the U990) which had a 5MP camera and did wide screen 16:9 DivX5 (avi format) / MP3 audio recording and also super slow motion 120fps video recording ...
MicroSD option and one of the best audio players ...
3inch resistive screen meant that it worked with the supplied stylus for very crude (but back then very awesome) hand writing recognition ...
Probably the best feature phone there was back then and it was also one of the first to offer HSDPA 3.6Mbits via single band 2100MHz 3G ...
All that from LG which today of course makes the Nexus4/5 ...
Meanwhile the other major Korean company flagship was the Omnia HD i8910 ... The first smartphone to do 720p HD (h.263 mpeg4) video recording and what made it so good was that it had Symbian s60v5 ... Yep Nokia based firmware but way better than what Nokia was doing with it at that time and it took Nokia a further 12 months before the Nokia N8 Samsung beat them to it with the Omnia HD ... Just goes to show just how bad Nokia was back then ...
As for Apple ... The iphone3 was out at this time taking a good chunk of the customer base world wide but it was only a matter of time that they would be gobbled up by something that 5 years ago was still something that 99.9% of the world did not know about ... Remember Android did not go mainstream until 2010 with the Samsung Galaxy S and the Nexus One (HTC Desire) ... But even then Samsung were not sure that Android would work as they were also getting on there own OS called Bad a with the Samsung Wave ....
Good looking back at this time in the world of mobile phones ...

Good choice, highlighting first Android phone which 'suddenly' became a touchscreen phone instead of a Blackberry like device very near to launch.

I agree with others that have commented. There should be more going on with this article. I was really anticipating a brief snapshot of each device & related tech/mobile news summary with its corresponding timeline. Something such as the competition during the time or what emerging/thriving technology was instilled for that moment. That way it gives readers an idea of how far the mobile scene has come along and where certain core ideas originated.
Weren't Palm and RIM's Blackberry key players (no pun intended) for QWERTY-based devices? Didn't their standards create innovation for other vendors to experiment some sort of full keyboard implementation into their devices?
Observations such as this should be embedded somewhere in this news article.
