I did buy the n97 in December 2009 that year.

    Great Review!
GSM Arena, as always, gives insight something forgotten by most people, this review no exception.
It was all begin with N97, my first love with smartphone. It looks unbeatable, waited anxiously, joined my first conversation on N97.pages with geeks I still remember their names Allen, Michuzi, Pepsi, lol... until the launch date, turned out disappointment!
Move on, got HTC G2 Hero, and the story goes.. until HTC One.today.

GSM arena please make it longer, it barely scratch the itch:-P
Anyway thank you for reminding how it was.. You're definitely the best site in the world.

Dear IOS fans, the fact that there is no information about IOS in this article is due to the fact that IOS hasn't really changed over the last five years. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

It would have been much better if there was a dedicated review style article like a full review you guys do for cellphones. Here you just fell short of words and space. Please GSMArena this is my humble request to you to bring a complete review on this topic. It would be an interesting read. Also how much the mobile technology has advanced in these times who knows better than you.

@gsmarena please make an article about the best of the best since the year when Nokia 3310 was introduced. That would be an epic article. PLEASEEEE!

I still have my Nokia N97 from way back then. What a hype about it before launch and boy was I excited about the 32gb of on board memory. When I eventually got it I was so excited which lasted all of about a month and then I began doubting my first choice phone manufacturer Nokia. Couldn't and still can't install anything on it, its out of memory, I donk know why and never will understand why they made the available user memory only 64mb. And after the os update you only left with 3mb so, when the new maps update was available you couldn't get it because it was 11+mb which meant you had to have at least 22mb available 11 to download the file and 11 to install it. So to this day when I take the phone out the draw and switch it on, it prompts me to download the maps update and there is no way possible unless I completely wipe the phone clean of everything which isn't' exactly ideal. And nokia decided to pull the plug and to hell with all of us loyal supporters who spent a fortune on their phone. So I vowed never to get another Nokia ever again I dont care that they have the best camera phones out now. I wont get another Nokia even if they returned to their former glory with the best specs hardware and software. Rant over :)

The Samsung Galaxy S2 not only set a new bar for smartphones; it smashed the bar, recreated it in its own image and put it out of reach of the competition

Wow, in 2009 i was using the Sony Ericsson P990i my very first touch screen phone with a stylus. Before that it was the Sony Ericsson W880i, the slimmest phone at that time. Funny, I've used only 2 main Nokia phones all my life, the N86 & the N8. Nokia and Sony Ericsson were the go to phones at that time.

Incredible how crappy phones we used back then but we thought they were good. Even iPhones were utterly stupid at the time, with no multitasking what so ever, not even an led flash, it was simpler than featurephones at the time.

I have to say the first real smartphone didnt come before end of 2009, the Nokia N900, a true champ, lightyears ahead of its contemporary competitors, this was before Android became really relevant with the Nexus One.
