03 Feb, 2009
Making a large step from a regular WinMo PocketPC to a heavily armored MID (Mobile Internet Device), Toshiba today launched the TG01 PocketPC. Packed with a 4.1" WVGA screen and measuring only 9.9 mm...

This is nothing compared to what Toshiba released nearly two years ago in Japan...

Seriously, the 911T by Softbank had a WVGA screen, Mobile Wallet, 3Mpx camera and was smaller and featured pretty much everything including Terrestrial TV without the WinMo.

They are just presenting second best here...

Having gotten burnt and lost a lot of money buying an unusable but elegant-looking junk called Toshiba G910, I would not touch anything mobile phone/PDA from Toshiba in a long time, regardless of the specifications on paper. Let Toshiba release a ROM that works for the G910 first, then we can look at its new releases.

Too big display, and it hardly fits in pocket, but every thing else is great, well done Toshiba!

polo99a9, 04 Feb 2009ok ok...everything looks great... but i am a bit concern ab... moreAgree. The "bigger is better" mentality is not good unless, this Toshiba becomes a test platform. It is after all the first with the new processor, running at breakneck speed, the first with such a big screen, etc. So hopefully its more of a demo piece not an indication of things to come.. I'm already aching that I can't afford the Touch HD....

As long as the screen will be scratch proof then I will consider this Device. Upset with all the scratches on all my PDAs.

Anywhere I go, the iphone and its users are always getting attacked by fanboys of any phonemaker. If the iphone sucks and have very poor sales, then why can't u guys just let it be? I'm sure that Apple will close down soon because their products are no good right? Why do u always have to attack the iphone if it's a weak phone? You guys look at Apple products as inferior, good for nothing, not worth a penny, useless machines. So just let Apple be that. Why pull it down more?

after nokia has bought the Symbian....WInMo n Montavista by Motorola rocks my world....those who claim that its a efficiency of TG01 that it runs on WinMo....think twice as Pocket PC functionality is better provided by WinMo rather than Symbian or Palm....

But the real deal is installed base. How many people are actually using the phones. For example, you can't expect someone with a 1 year old WM or Symbian phone to change the next year. Most won't some will. But in the case of Iphone, most people are switching over entirely. Hence the big figures. But true measure of popularity is installed base... And that's something those dim wit at Gartner or whatever research houses don't tell you. There's probably more operational S60 phones in the world then every other smartphone platform combined. There's definitely more phones operational running Windows Mobile than Mac + Blackberry combined. That's a fact...
