11 Feb, 2009
You may remember the modular phone that impressed us at MWC 2008. Easily one of the most pleasant surprises of last year's event, the modular Modu phone now is just about to launch along with...

the modular phone that i whas imagining would be a little difrent. in a single phone, you can add or remove camera for example, like you do a cartrige in a gameboy. so you buy the phone in it's basic form, and then you need/want buy a beter camera, beter speakers, a qwerty keyboard insted of numeric one, and so one.. these addons can be GPS reciver, wifi antena, led/xenon flash, etc. you can custumize your phone to your needs.

I think Hikaru can beat all those 'jackets'. Because it incorporates everything you want in ONE single phone. Thus it makes it more environmental friendly, cost efficiency and more practical in everday use.

    Please buy Hikaru from SE.

Greed is going to destroy as all. Our world is based on consumption, waste of resources and energy for something invaluable like printed paper called money.
We are nearing to the point where everything is being destroyed around us by few who have abnormal power among others. These few do not care about anything but themselves. Unfortunately we are doomed.
Once again we humans will destroy themselves just like the civilizations before ours on this planet.

I like the idea: it's funny, seems exiting and impressive. but it seems such a huge impact on the environment. now already most of us visitors here change our mobile phone at least once a year, with this device you can buy a new "cover" every month. can you imagine the ton of waste this will be in the end?

Some of you must have intellects like 5-year olds. As some one already said, private companies like the one behind Modu, doesn't have anything to do with the government or it's military actions. So boycotting this or Apple or such just hurts that one company. And though Israel isn't without blame, Hamas and the likes aren't purely victims.. As they say, it takes two..

Is it really so good? Is it affordable for regular people ?
I am not sure I will buy 2-3 "jackets"
                  Not in these times.
                  Cheers from Israel.

glad to see atleast one company putting their thinking caps on before designing a phone. but have to agree with the guys, its kinds impractical.the only use i can think of is you kinda feel like you have 5 different phones, and maybe show off, both are kinda sad.

Some say that this is a nice idea. But it is not!!!

This is a way to make more money on the same product. They are going to make one base electronics and than sell the jackets for it. This is not made to be creative, this is made to make more money.
Israel… = I WANT MORE AND MORE AND MORE.!!!!!!

who needs a jacket for every event? .... where do I keep the spare jackets? what happens if I forget to switch jackets?... Am I missing something here? It seems that I have to buy 4 mobiles to get what I used to easily find in one mobile ???? I guess we'll have to wait for the real thing to get a review first when it hits the shelves

This is good because you can put on the jacket for only the functions you need to have that particular day.

Ok...let me get this straight! You need a "jacket" for music, one for cool graphics, one for gaming purposes, one for a decent keypad, etc... Aren´t there already phones that have ALL these "jackets" in a single device? oh, what's that? Modu is also coming up with a strait-jacket? Oh...

Nice concept but i really dont see the point. It seems like one way of making one phone do many things but you then have to 'buy' the features you want. Just another money-making scheme..
