Android is not restricted at all. One can do whatever he wants to do with Android. ANYONE can download Android sources, modify them and release the modified version, simple as that.
iOS is a proprietary system. No one other than Apple can access its source code, so no onde can properly modify it and/or release its modifications.
SAMSUNG is NOT Android. This is a mistake that is getting more and more common because Samsung is the biggest Android-devices maker, but just because of this, doesn't make Android as restricted as iOS..I say this because I'm a proud owner of a Motorola Moto X, that had no stupid restriction. The only thing it had was the bootloader which I understand as a "we're going to lock this so you'll not be able to destroy the system files, and you'll only do it if you really know what are you doing".

Samsung region lock is coming to asia also with future software update. Buy an unlocked samsung today and have it locked in a month.
It would be ok if it cost $199 but it doesnt, who in their right mind will pay for such a "feature"?
Samsung claims region lock was implemented because they listened to their customers and did it to better serve them, are you feeling well served now Samsung lovers? Hahah so pathetic you all are to buy such restricted crap and then go on complaining about how restricted iOS is, lol.

Of course, sooner or later Samsung will drop such a stupid practice, but first they need to feel significant drop in sales. I believe this year they are going to feel "excellent" drop in sales (especially for their flagman devices).

Well I am for it sick of getting grey imports even on Amazon and having to return..The majority of sales will be legit anyay so as for damaging Samsung sales it will be minimal and plenty of other phones to buy..Just buy another phone who cares as long as it stops me getting grey imports..

changed to LG2 one generation earlier and got the better deal. samsung definitely lost me with the region lock.

WTF Sammy, whether grey market/ black market/ or white market, you are getting your money, then why these freaking locks.
I wanted to get my cousin to get me a Samsung Galaxy S5 from London as it is much cheaper there, than in India, but now with this damn rule, I dont want my Cousin to open my phone's sealed box and insert a sim card and speak on my brand new freaking Samsung phone for 5 long minutes. Do you know that the bacteria stuff from her ear would go into my new phone's ear piece.
