Anonymous, 15 Apr 2014Are talking iPhone 4??????No, He's right. The S5 is more expensive than the iphone 5S. £579 for S5 and £549 for iPhone 5S. That would be around $50 difference if you transfer it. Not to mention with transfer pricing and with Samsung building/sourcing many of its parts, it may be cheaper than this $256. Of course, that is assuming that this quote is correct in the first place. What's a good margin for you fanboys out there? 30%? 70%? Samsung is making a good 200% margin on the fanboy suckers who are defending them for free. Well, that's not counting the ones who are paid by Samsung to comment on here.

S5 is built from expensive quality materials but lower market price, and iPhone uses cheap materials but too expensive in the market.

Is the cost estimate per piece?
Because if it's per bulk or batch of production, it would be much cheaper.

One thing is for sure, Apple spends a lot more on quality service with many stores to accept returns, replace phones for free and do free repairs on faults for phones with warranty.

None of this rubbish where you send in and wait 30 days..

Assembly cost is 5usd/256usd= 1.95%. I work in 3 electronic contract mfgs in 17 years. I do not know who can do with this cost (labor, machine, facilities, tax, ...)

this is just material cost.... add manufacturing , labor , sale tax, marketing etc etc

Anonymous, 15 Apr 2014Source please? You need a source to say that Samsung is the biggest consumer electronics manufacturer and that most parts they and everyone else uses are branded Samsung, really?? And you guys really think samsung buys their own parts for the same price they sell them to other manufacturers? That would be funny, but even if they did, the net cost and the net income would be the same: lower than anyone else.
