I dont know if you know this or not but even if samsung manufactures their own displays it still will cost samsung same as what it will cost other phone manufacturers to buy the screen. This is because samsung phone making is a business and samsung screen making is as separate business and both entities need to make profit individually. Hence in order to make that profit the display department needs to sell the displays to the phone department at regular market prices and not at subsidised prices.

Excuse me, but unlike other makers they actually "manufacture" their parts, so when you say the display costs $63, it's actually what others pay for that display, their real internal cost is more like $30, and this applies to many parts Samsung makes and does not actually buy, so their cost is even lower compared to other makers.

Haha, the funniest part of this is to think what "Cost" means to Samsung; It's not Apple or HTC buying those parts, it's actually Samsung "buyuing" from Samsung and because they produce almost all the stuff they put in a phone, the real cost of their phones is a lot lower,... and yet they charge a lot more.

Customer service and free Genius Bar appointments to talk and learn about iOS and Mac don't just drop from the sky.
I bought an iPhone 5s last year and there was a slight buzz in the earpiece, they replaced it in 2 minutes. I didn't see it drop from the sky,
I got more than my money's worth already.

When Samsung make a large profit from cheaper parts (which they make themselves, so much cheaper) = fanboys factor in R&D, labour costs (when they use a free OS) and allsorts to make up the difference.

Didn't you guys read the article? It costs them $5 to assemble 1 unit. Also you don't really know how much Samsung really pays for the parts coz they buy millions of each one. So the normal cost doesn't apply. The R&D Costs of course are high but now it's only material + $5 for assembly.

Prices in Africa are just too unrealistic and very variable: Zimbabwe - Gal S5 $1200 and iPhone $1300 - $850 for the 16Gb version.The only cheap phones here are Lumias 1520 $1000- $620. if microsoft did its research there would be Official shops for windows phone , to my estimation I think they manage almost about 12 - 18% market share here, as predicted Android gobbles the lion's share of the market. if anything is to be learnt - Customers will stop at nothing to get what they want - stiff prices are just very high hurdle.

I'm ex-samy customer after the huge disappointment of the metal body,eye sensor lock,64 bit cpu,Qhd display S5 the most premium 2014 flagship. Huge disappointment people I will prefer hct one or experia z2 because what I had learned that the most thing which will last with you is the build quality and the beautiful design.

Marketing and ads cost?
Value of software and hardware design? I think, it's more valueable and important things than anything in production ........
so, I think Apple's stuffs is more expensive than Samsung's stuffs, if we looked from technologies that they've made. Samsung Galaxy lines is better than Apple's products.

They do not make anywhere near that amount of profit. That is the raw cost of the materials, not the total cost of getting it to market, which is much higher. Try reading the article properly before making stupid comments. It does point it out very clearly for those who actually bother to read wnat it actually says.
