Galaxy s 5 mini by far the worst phone I have owned. Audio is so low on TX that no one can hear me so I have to use speaker all the time. Signal in fringe areas is poor on calls and data even worse. Screen cracked after two weeks. I have never broken a screen ever before.. The rest of the phone works fine but the basic function of wireless comms and weak chassis let it down. I wish I never paid 170 quid for this flimsy weak crap..

rajabalak, 01 May 2014the way I see it, "mini" is a marketing fraud ban... moreNot much mini price; with "minis" you pay almost as much as for the flagship; both Galaxy and HTC minis cost you about $500 at launch, which is crazy considering they're technology of 2 years ago and similar phones of 2012 now cost $200-300.

Sony is smart to use "compact" instead to differentiate its true "mini" flagship. But now we all know the term mini..mean only the "look" of the flagship and inside is all "crab", but be fair, the price tag is also mini-mized. Possible to squeeze all the high tech stuff into a 4.5" form factor?

Riachu, 01 May 2014Just cause you can't afford the Z1 Compact, doesn't mean we... morewell! its up to you. you can compare anything with anything. but there is no denying the fact that z1 compact with its better design and build, 20.7 mp camera and snapdragon 800 processor is a nowhere in the league of s5 mini with all plastic build, 8mp camera and snapdragon 400 processor.
in short its logical enough to say s5 mini is a mid range device whereas z1 compact is a flagship quality with smaller form factor.

Compact is something shrinked to small size for the convineince. So z1 compact is a shrinked z1, for usability ( people who love small devices with powerful hardware )
Mini is something smaller to the original in all sorts ( hardware , size )
they are targeted for two different crowd, those who want flagship in small size and those who want a miniature flagship in all sorts.

This is why I don't buy Samsung because when you have the great flagship phone with bigger screen and after a few weeks if will come the mini is small screen.

Mini: smaller size than the norm. This is the reason why we're interested in them and compare them. It's irrelevant if they're a so called 'mid-ranger', if compared phones fulfill the users requirements then the comparison is valid

True minis only the Droid Mini and Sony Z1 compact.Though the latter for it's dimensions is not even a mini.
And for value Moto G, Nexus 5, OnePlus are showing how hardware should be priced.
Fanatic people commit the most incoherent acts, and support systems, governments, religions, companies, blindly without realising they are just being exploited due to their own ignorance by those who understand how humans works.

My advice to you guys is to buy something with the same spec as the earlier samsung models that costs much less but performance is the same. Don't fall for something that has a 'mini' to it, it's not the same as the flagship. Just buy the flagship if you're a fanboy! Still it's your money, not mine.

holy crap guys! stop conparing every mini to the z1 compact! just by looking at the price, can't you f-ing see that the z1 compact is a high end phone! the s5 mini and almost all other minis are freaking mid-rangers. plus, these phones are meant for other countries and meant to be bought unlocked. so stop conparing everything to the z1 compact. darn it.
