AnonD-269201, 31 May 2014Yes they have some factories in vietnam too.But none of their top tier devices is made outside Korea. Cheaper devices maybe, but never the eye catching ones.

It's because Motorola simply discontinued the business outside USA. That happened back in mid 2010 after their first top Android device - Motorola Milestone. Despite good sales, unprofessional management led company to crash and suddenly sold remains of Mobility division to Google.

The name of the game is called "de-localization". This is not only affecting US manufacturers but now also the Chinese manufacturers themselves. The Chinese have seen within the past ten years what the West has seen before, prosperity and wage hikes, so now they are moving into Ethiopia, Egypt and other countries where salaries are comparatively low, coupled with good government incentive packages. Japan and South Korea have moved into such markets quite early, so even if Motorolla it seems was slow to catch up, but then it's not too late either.

Availability is the biggest problem. For a long time most of their best phones were only available on one carrier in the US. Look at the Motorola razr back on the day. Available everywhere and sold millions. Droid Maxx with its monstrous battery life was only available on one carrier in the US, IIRC.

There is certainly a reason why manufacturing was slowly outsourced from developed countries to developing countries and it was successful. Primary reason being, the cost savings in production outweigh all the associated risks, additional costs and problems of global model.

Motorola exec's just thought they could just reverse it, just like that ? I don't think so. The only real reason of doing this IMO was thinking this could become a selling factor in products success, but I guess it didn't quite work out, as their product didn't achieve the success they were hoping for. So closing the plan seems logical.

Samsung phones are made in chine too (and they are realllllyy bad), but Motorola will always keep the high quality. They just want to make they devices available everywhere, not just in the US, so they move to china and send the products to US, EU, Asia, Australia. So more people can buy them.

May be due cheaper smart phone prices, there fore Motorola won't be able to sell their phone at competitive prices in order to keep paying high wages. It's logically thinking that this is the reasons. Isn't it !
