Nokia report 90 percent less profit in Q1, but sell 5800 like hotdogs

16 April, 2009
Nokia reported their financial status at the end of Q1 this year and it does not sound good. The biggest phone manufacturer at this stage has 90% profit drop, 27% sales drop and the Finns even started to cut...

it's funny how people are trying to bash Nokia because they've had a bad year in sales, not realising that they still own a majority of the market. it's was bound to happen and they new they were in need of a change in the 96 is a very good phone in quite the best smart phone out their without touchscreen. in fact you tell me one phone bettr without touchscreen then the n96 buddy with it's features and storage and camera and video options! you gotta give Steve Jobs credit where credit is due in terms of marketing the most lame phone and over hyped phone out there-the iphone. selling the phone at such a low price was per genius. even for those who either didnt know what the phone was all about or for those who just want to check it out, they could do it without spending n-series money. The guy is a genius!

Zzzz, 17 Apr 2009"that it still has the highest market share at 37%" Just a... moreDid you have to stoop that low as to fabricate facts???. At no point last year did Nokia have a 60% markets share. Why you insist on embarrasing yourself in front of a global audience beats me.... Nothing new here, your behaviour is typical of a Nokia hater ( that of being brain dead)

If you don't like the The N85, you simply don't buy it and life goes on.....

Thats what happens when you bring out disappointing phones like the n96 and all the other late N series phones. I knew Nokia was declining in sales. They are bringing features that we saw already in their previous phones with the boring old keypads. They need something new, something big, the 5800 wont help them and dont get your hopes up about that other 5800 type phone they are releasing. The n97 cant fight the war on its own. If they keep on bringing out these sh!ty ass phones, soon samsung will lead the market followed by S.E. They need to bring out about 10 touchscreen phones that beat the Samsung Omnia HD, and the S.E idou in everything then they might get some money and give those poor workers back their jobs.

Of course now Nokia makes most of its profit selling super cheap phones in India. Wait till they want better phones than that.

By the way N85 is based on the low spec N78

It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out why Nokia dropped sales in first Q of 2009 compared to 2008. Just approx 2-3 months before the first Q of 2008 Nokia released the N82, 6500 classic, N95 8GB, 5310 Xpressmusic, 6500 slide, N81 etc were available for retailers to order in and were avaialable for consumers round dec 2007, so of course they made more profit, duh! This time Nokia are releasing their phones in the´summer, like the N97, 6700 Classic, 6710 Navigator, E75, E55, 5730 and 5630 Xpressmusic, and specially the N86, so i don't understand how Nokia are supposed to make money when they have released the next line yet, In Q3 after alll these releases you will see Nokia go superprofit again.

The economic crisis is at the heart of Nokia's sales and profit slide as consumers resist upgrades due to lower disposable incomes and as operators and distributors engage in de-stocking.

If you think Nokia's products are pathetic cheap plastic stuff, then how do you explain the fact that it still has the highest market share at 37% and is only down 2 percentage points?.

In future engaging your brains before typing your comments won't hurt. OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That didnt surprise me, this crisis is all over the world. If they are the biggest mobile sellers then the biggest car sellers got the same problem. I reckon they ain't releasing the highly anticipated N97 bcuz they wanna see the market come back to its original form or atleast recover a bit, N97 is the most expensive hand set of theirs so they dont wanna risk anything. Ppl who criticize that they dont release the hand set on time then they should take the example of 5800 thats the only touch screen they released while the others have atleast 4 or 5 and its big big hit of 2009 already.
                          Cheers

The economic climate may mean that the company decides to consider altering its product line divisions particularly as devices increasingly become more and more effectively equipped as all rounded offerings with less difference between them. The best example of this already happening is the differences and functionality between the E and the N Series, which whilst several years were quite distinct and bought by different consumers, are now much more similar in nature. The figures announced today almost certainly secure the future of the 5th edition S60 touchscreen operating system given the success of the fabulous 5800.

The Finns still are the best of the best. Have had LG and Samsung smartphones, but no comparison. Especially concerning software and usability in real life. Also the simple Nokias my girlfriend has are remarkably well made and endurable. Worth the money in every aspect.
