Anonymous, 27 Apr 2009What? Samsung image sensors have allways been better than ... moreI have had a Nokia N73, K800i, N82 & Samsung Omnia All three take very good daylight shots & ok video but when you take aphoto indoors or in low light the N73 is below average the samsung omnia is poor, K800i is good day photos night not that bad & the Nokia N82 without the xenon flash is the best. The video on the N73 very poor, Samsung omnia not to bad in the daylight but poor inside (day time) and poor at night, Nokia N82 very good in day light & very good in low light in clubs at night with flashing lights you can see every detail.

I love my Samsung Omnia & it is my main phone but I have to swap sims & take out the N82 it I am going to take photos at night.

Everyone always goes on about how good / poor the cameras are but they mainly compare outside daylight shots, that is not the true test of a camera phone a 3.2 mega pixel will take a photo just as good as a 8 mega pixel the true test of a camera phone is indoors & night shots.

Samsung seem to be inconsistent in the quality of there camera lets hope Android phone will have one of the good cameras.

Pw, 27 Apr 2009The problem with Samsung is the camera, Nokia’s have always... moreWhat?
Samsung image sensors have allways been better than Nokia. First of all, like Sony's Cyber Shot, Samsung makes handheld cameras and incorporate that R&D into their phones.

GSM Arena's own review of the soul says:

"The results showed that Samsung U900 Soul's camera was really up to the task, producing better pictures than the N95 8GB on most occasions. Samsung U900 showed lower noise levels, more precise exposure metering and better in-camera processing"

Then the review of the N96:
"The picture quality of Nokia N96 is decent but, much to our surprise, not as good as any of the Nokia N95 versions. It is quite obvious that a smaller sensor have been used in Nokia N96 resulting in a reduced dynamic range. The handset also has a strong tendency to overexpose photos which brings in quite prominent highlight clipping. The clipping of a single color channel, resulting in loss of detail is also quite common"

So by deduction, Nokia's flagship phone, the N96 takes worse pictures than the N95, and hence worse pictures than the Soul, a year old handset. The Samsung Tocco, Pixon and Tocco Ultra all take better pictures than the Soul, go look at the comparison shots.

                  So just to clarify:

SAMSUNGS TAKE BETTER PHOTOS THAN NOKIAS.

This device appears to be a strong showcase for android. The company's feature devices are a strong alternative though and it proves that the distinction between all devices and what constitutes a smart phone is more difficult to define as more and more devices come with so much fabulous technology. Bizarrelx it is now only the most expensive devices on the market branded luxury which appear to be years behind.

The problem with Samsung is the camera, Nokia’s have always been far superior than Samsung they take less blurry shots & better shots in low light.

Anonymous, 27 Apr 2009symbian is still the best.Symbian is the best but not if they insist on not having kinetic (flick) scrolling on there touch software. I won’t touch Symbian again until it introduced it. It is weird they do not have it on there software but nokia labs keeps releasing software with kinetic scrolling??? Hopefully the n97 & future now qwerty touch screen phones will have kinetic scrolling.

ummm, i think it is ugly personally? Can just see a bunch of samsung fans going nuts. It's promising on features, though android isn't as powerful as it could be yet. Would rather see more internal memory, SD cards are slow. Interesting to see the true hardware specs processors etc.. Maybe just be an underpowered over featured device like all other samsungs, nokias etc... fingers crossed that this is the start of a solid line of phones though
