kshitijgandhi, 16 Jul 2014I think the 480 fps video recording is the capability of th... moreYes 480 fps as you said is the maximum capacity of the chip and of course that doesn't mean anyone will actually use it, either on a new phone or an app.
Probably no one will develop phones or apps with such high fps ratings ad this would result in such a big file that nobody would want it. Besides, I would bet that for it to do so, it would have to be processing video and nothing more and in real life, we are always doing some other stuff on our smartphones, always something running in the background, so I don't think any phone maker would bother doing a 480fps capable smartphone or an app.
Maybe when there is a 960fps chip but not now.
As for the snapdragon 800 if in real world, real smartphone it is able to do 60fps I would bet its actually limit has to be higher than that.
Remember, rarely something is used at 100% of its capabilities.

      64-bit a53 or a57 like Apple?

darkgamer, 15 Jul 2014I think that's a misprint. Qualcomm snapdragon 801 tops... moreI think the 480 fps video recording is the capability of the chipset whereas the 60 fps for the snapdragon 800 series is not actually the limitation on chipset but rather on the camera sensor/other camera component. Besides, the camera must have a large aperture to capture so much light so that everything is visible even at 480 fps - which is not the case with mobile phones.

        Just my thought.

What is weird is to see a boost in specifications not in performance and that proves the architecture needs to be redesigned or intensive work to improve consumer now pay more penny's for the same wok nearly

This is nothing to be sold in Egypt or another country. It's just a mobile phone CPU. It's powerful but it has to be a part of a phone.

The chip is in house design or an ARM license, and if so, which chip is, A53 ?

darkgamer, 15 Jul 2014I think that's a misprint. Qualcomm snapdragon 801 tops... moreit's not a misprint. please read more carefully:

                        > capability to create and playback 480 frames per second 1080p Full HD Super-Slow Motion videos

yes "recording" is at 480fps. playback will either be at 30fps or 60fps which when played will look slow. hence "super-slow motion" videos.

but how can it record at 480fp you say? the higher the frame rate, the less that changes from frame to frame. if you were to capture 1,000,000fps, there will be so little change between frames 1 through 1000 that you "might as well" show frame 1 again and again. such little change can be compressed very very well.

Qualcomm snapdragon 801 tops out at 1080p@60 fps. This is 8 times more.

You need 8 times the power with the same or less heat dissipation. That means 8 times efficiency with 8 times power. That's impossible.

This much power will be enough to melt down the SoC.

Further, 1080p@30fps takes 17 Mbps. so ideally this will take around 10 times more storage as it's 16 times more framerate considering a drop in quality. That leads to a 170 Mbps bitrate and storing that is gonna take a problem.

                              This is simply not practical.

Well, so Media Tek really deserves a lot of huge compliments!!!!! It is really at parallel level or? with the big brands like Qualcomm's Snapdragon, NVIDIA Tegra, Samsung Exynos, etc. so again well done and keep it up to Media Tek! !!!!!!!!
