Not a good move for HTC; as it would appear that they're saying their hardware does not meet the standard of Nokias 520 bottom of the range WP! Sounds more like HTC can't be bothered supporting customers that have supported them by buying the 8S'. I certainly won't be entertaining purchasing another HTC with support like that.

Hardware isn't the reason for this... My 8S works even better with Wp 8.1 than with Wp 8. Update 1 isn't a new OS, just a patch to existing 8.1, so there is marketing issue, not hardware one... HTC was my favourite brand for smartphones, but now i'll go to buy something else, not their crap.

Still you can have Win 8.1 on 8s with Developer Preview. Maybe it is called 'developer' but features are same as in official release.
Honestly I don't have any issues with 8.1 on HTC 8s. I would say that phone is working better than on WM 8.

This news gladdens my heart. I just joined the wp band wagon last week. I ditched my android 4.4.2 huawei ascend p6. And htc 8x was what i could afford to buy. With this said update i could not have been so happy. Thank you HTC.

Also problem is htc 8s has 4gb inbuilt memory out of which 2gb is by system. And as far as 530 story is there it has only 1.6 gb dedicated to system and thus has more free space. Curse HTC for not given more memory

Even Lumia 520 got Update 1. Then i can't see reason why 8S won't... I'm just done with thess HTC's

It's about internal memory! Many Nokia phones with Doal-Core 1.0 GHz got the latest update but they had at least 8GB of memory!!!

One major advanatage of wp over android is the updates and here it's lost again. Htc once again messes up the updates of its phones.

If I remember correct Windows was planed to skip the OEMs in terms of updates. It is not up to HTC to test anything regarding stability or push it when they please. I guess there is something not quite clarified with Microsoft. There are many cheap Chinese and Indian devices waiting to be released but for some reason only Nokias see the light of day. Since Nokia is the new MS hardware brand they may be trying to avoid the fate of the Surface Pro by guaranteeing at least minor sales.

I don't care about GDR1. Just give us offical WP 8.1. I don't want to be on developer preview...

This phone barely evoked any response , they are only doing this to make people buy the M8 windows one or other new WP devices.
